I bought my 2019 3500 Laramie Cummins 6.7 as a 1st year of a newly re-designed model and have only had two small issues. The wire that powered the rear window defroster was disconnected and they had to replace the entire window. Also, the tailgate had to be adjusted because it would not entirely close. Both covered under warranty. Otherwise the truck has been great. I love it and the honeymoon continues.
That's not exactly a direct comparison. The update to the HD models was mostly cosmetic, while for the 1500 it was a complete redesign. Pretty much every system on the truck was brand new.

Luck of the draw. I had a 2019 1500 and loved the truck. Ended up selling it to buy a 2021 2500 for our 5th wheel.

I thought I'd post on here to see if I could get any answers or really any comments regarding this thread.

Back in September of 2018 my Dad bought a brand new, right off the lot, 2019 Ram 1500 with the 5.7. He had two other Rams in the past, a 2009 and a 2013 - both amazing, beautiful, and outstanding, reliable trucks... until this 2019.

Now, I am his son and when he was deciding between two, he let me choose the one he should get, go figure!

I simply want to go over some issues regarding his truck that have occurred since late, 2018.

All these issues are not in date order, as I haven't kept good track of dates and when issues have occurred.

Two weeks
after my father purchased his brand new 2019 Ram 1500, the power folding mirrors required service as they power folded in, but manually had to be pushed back out, as they got stuck.

Most recently, the "bolts" or "joints" that I believe connect the exhaust to the muffler somehow "snapped off." One morning we started the truck up via the remote start and noticed it sounded much louder than it did the day before. Don't get me wrong, it sounded amazing, but it's still an issue. My dad called the dealership and they told him it was not covered under Warranty or his purchased, "Extended Warranty." - meaning he had to pay out of pocket.

Back in June-ish of 2020, we were excited to drive 8 hours away from home to go on a vacation. One issue occurred though, about a week before the vacation my dad's truck had to be serviced due to the truck failing to start when the push to start button is pushed. The dealership service department had the truck for almost a week and gave it back to us two days before we had to leave and told us the "RF Hub was replaced and that caused the starting issue." Okay, well that's good that it's fixed! On our way down, skeptical but happy- we made it down to the vacation spot. The truck worked perfectly for the 6 out of 7 days we were there, but go figure- on the last and final day we ran into an issue. One night we were planning on running out to grab some food and the truck failed to start. After about 10-12 tries of starting it, we heard the weirdest noise come from the engine. I mean like if I dropped a sharp heavy metal object into the engine and it hit every single thing inside the engine, it was a not so pleasant noise. After about 20 tries, it started. We got back, tried it a few more times- worked fine. The morning of leaving, guess what- the truck fails to start again. It once again, took my Dad about 20 tries to start it. On our 8 hour ride home, we never once turned the truck off- not for gas, not for stops, nothing. Once we got back, it was serviced and on a 2019, they told us the "starter went bad". A starter on a 2019, a one year old truck at this time?

Sometime, I believe in 2020 as well the truck needed service for some reason, I honestly can't remember. Now this probably leans more on the service department, but they kept my dad's truck for an entire month because they could not figure out what was causing the issue it was causing. Ultimately - it was a very small piece way in the back of the engine.

Another issue that occurred in 2020-2021 were the Front ParkSense sensors. My dad has been in the service shop three different times for these sensors. The first time they told him faulty wiring, second time, once again- faulty wiring, and the third time they told him the actual physical sensors needed replaced. Needless to say, after "repairing" the sensors, literally the day later the "Service Front ParkSense" popped up.

Another issue that occurred was the overhead lighting failed to turn on. They said they had to replace the entire overhead compartment, the compartment that holds the emergency buttons and the moonroof buttons.

Another issue that has occurred has been with the tailgate. Sometimes and a lot of the times, the tailgate fails to open and you only hear a "click." So, you have to push it really hard and then pull it, to open it. My dad went in to get this serviced and they said they "lubricated" the tailgate. Needless to say, this issue still occurs.

Another major issue that has occurred has been with the engine cylinders. My father's truck has had at least 4-5 "Cylinder Misfires" since he bought the truck. The same symptoms every time, the engine fails to give any power and it seems as if you are going to stall. Understanding that all 4-5 times, has been yet again, another drive to the service department. All 4-5 misfires have also occurred in approx. 6 months.

Another issue that needed fixed was the "Throttle Cable." Same symptoms as the misfires, the engine fails to give any power and it seems as if you are going to stall.

Another issue that was never brought into service was one time the truck failed to pump gas normally. It almost seemed as the tank was full and the truck didn't want anymore gas, even though the truck was nowhere near full.

Another issue that was never brought into service was when the truck sometimes fails to get out of Park. It'll display a message stating, "Please put the vehicle in park." - or something along those lines and it'll never let you get out of park unless you restart the engine a couple of times.

And despite all of the issues I have posted, I know these aren't all the issues my Dad has ran into. These are the most upfront and larger scaled or newer issues.

Here's the issue though- when my Dad comes to trade this truck in, how does he know with buying another Ram that he will receive a reliable and durable truck? Would he seriously be a fool to buy another Ram after all the issues he's had?
He loves Ram. He likes the looks, everything. He hates Ford, Chevy, GMC, all the other brands.

I wrote this up just to see if anyone else has ran into any issues with their 2019 Ram 1500's. I meant for this thread to be as respectful as possible to Ram as I understand that this truck was, as my grandpop would say, "built on a Friday."
My Dad worked for Dodge for many years. He used to tell me the weakest link was the dealerships. There are a lot of great dealerships out there, a few bad eggs spoil the breakfast for all.

I have the same issue with pumping gas. It takes a very long time to pump gas as the tank thinks it's full. I also have the same issue with the tail gate. I have to pull the handle and push forward very hard in order for it to disengage so I can open it.

Thought I'd give an update on this post;
As of 8/25/21 the "Service Front ParkSense Sensors" has popped up again! The front sensors fail to work 99% of the time as of now. They've worked on these sensors on three different occasions. They've "replaced wiring" twice and "replaced the physical sensors once."

What more could you fix on the damn parking sensors?
About a week later, so approx. September 1, the Front ParkSense Sensors were working again. As of 9/15/21 - out again, completely not working. Most times they go on and off- they work for an hour, then "break." But as of now, completely done.

I'm not completely sure what more you can do to a sensor;

They've replaced wiring twice and replaced the physical sensor once...

Lemon 2019 was the first year for the body style. The early made models had problems. I have a latter made 2019 really no problems love it

Sad situation. Our two 2019's have been pretty reliable. The Laramie had to be towed in because the push button start switch broke. The Bighorn got a new seat cover under warranty. Both were in and out of shop same day.

New issue that has occurred as of 10/7-

The passenger side mirror makes cracking and bumping noises every time it is placed back out into the normal position.

Looking at the two mirrors the passenger side wobbles and moves, while the driver side does not.
The passenger side also looks cracked or misplaced off the actual frame.

Go figure.

The power folding mirrors use plastic gears which can strip over time. If you're still under warranty the dealer will replace the mirror.

Sell it. Trade it. Get rid of it. And as soon as possible.
And NEVER buy a first year model redesign, especially one that is an early build. No matter the brand.

In January, 2003 I bought a 2003 V8 Toyota 4Runner, built in September 2012. It was the first year that the 4Runner had been redesigned, and was the first v8/5 speed computer controlled automatic. It was awful. But not quite a lemon under Virginia law.

The first signs something was wrong: it smelled of rotten eggs and vibrated when shifting and towing. Then 300 miles from home it died while giving us the first (of several) dashboard Christmas Tree warning light shows.

Over 30,000 miles there were 2 new transmissions and 2 catalytic converters before Toyota figured out that the computer engine control system was bad. But there were irritating other problems and recalls. The electric cargo-rear window got stuck open in a snowstorm at a ski area. The suspension had loud rattles and bump noises. Ultimately the rear suspension was modified by Toyota, but I had to tow the boat to the dealer and show them how much the rear squatted with just a 2,500 lb trailer w/boat attached. The trailer had only 250 lbs of tongue weight. The SUV was rated for 500 lbs tongue / 5,500 lbs trailer. All the repairs were covered by warranty, but the thing repeatedly spent weeks at the dealership (without a loaner, of course). Fortunately I decided to keep our (tow pack equipped) 1994 Jeep Cherokee.

After the last dashboard Christmas tree light show was put out by a Toyota dealer, I drove it straight from Toyota to Dodge and got a sweet 2005 Durango Limited.

I have a 2020 and the only issue thus far is the visor broke. They are fixing it today under warranty. Unload it and get another one.

I bought a '19 at the end of august '18...one of the first ones around here and I have had very few problems with mine. I've driven in blizzard conditions in the mountains, towed my travel trailer for hours thru driving rain storms, did a 3000+ mile trip thru colorado, new mexico, utah, and wyoming with no problems getting 20 or more mpg on the road. the only problem I have had is that droning sound from the ANC that others have had. I just unplugged it and no more noise. once when driving across west Texas with a gale force cross wind I got an occasional chirping from around the driver side door which was on the down wind side. I neven figured out what caused that but it never happened again. luck of the draw maybe but mine has been great.

I have an early build MY 19, built April 2018, Bought Aug 2018, (within first 2 weeks of owning, took a 4,000 mile round trip, no issues). With the exception of the recalls, my only big issue was the AC being poor and had TSB done. I am battling an overheat issue, DEALERSHIP has new fan ordered. I am happy with the truck overall, as it does what I need when I need it. I do have a lower trim Bighorn and not all the bells and whistles of the upper tier RAMS, but that is a good thing.
