I have looked on this forum but do not see this issue. It's happened 3 times now in the last two weeks:

1. Truck is off
2. Open door, get into truck.
3. Start the truck
4. Shift knob to reverse. Uconnect shows reverse camera view and then it locks up completely and freezes. This lasts for about 5 minutes then the unit automatically resets. No response to touch screen, knobs or buttons at all. Music plays but cannot adjust volume or channel.

Is there any way to know if this thing can or has set a code? At this point it is more annoyance than anything but my concern is it may get worse. Please let me know if there is further info you need or any function I should try. I appreciate any advice. Thanks!! Ed

When you say reset are you saying it reboots or it just starts working?

With the truck being so new why not take it in with video of hit happening. Wonder if there was an over the air update that its trying to install and causing issues when you immediately try to use another function of the system. Have you tried just letting it stay on for a few min first then continue on your way?

Working 2 jobs makes it difficult to get into dealer. That plus 8 weeks out to even get an appt.:banghead: The workaround of waiting 2 minutes to engage transmission seems to work. Why should I put up with that though? I bought the truck in April yet this started only 2-3 weeks ago. I guess I will call the dealer. I was hoping someone here had seen this before. Is there a hard reset of the thing I can do?

I would recommend a firmware upgrade if applicable and I would recommend the dealer do it if under or just out of warranty. They break it they buy it...

Just an update here for this issue. It still occurs. I called the dealer to request they review the concern. I made an appointment for Dec 17th and told them that I cannot recreate the issue directly but that I took video of it. The service writer basically laughed and told me the video won't matter and if they cannot recreate the issue then I will be SOL. That was nice to hear. I never received such a response from a dealer when I had my Toyota. Stay tuned, I may be opening up a customer care ticket on this (not too impressed there either from what I have been reading).

Here we go.

Maybe @RamCares can get involved on your behalf.

I had a similar issue, mine would spontaneously freeze while driving and reboot after a couple minutes. Only happened in the winter months though and when I had the blue theme on. Got a video of it just incase it could help me. Called my dealer and they said they had numerous others raising the same issue and that they were told a software update was in the works and would be applied when it’s released. That was back in April and when I brought the truck in for an oil change 2 weeks ago they applied it. Hasn’t happened again so fingers crossed. Hope they can sort it out for you.

I have a theory about this issue. There is a TSB #S2008000123-Rev. B that discusses a similar issue with the 2020 Ram except it states for 2020 Ram with Ecodiesel. It may or may not be related, but it got me thinking.

So my theory is this. In thinking in terms of this device as a computer that is overloaded with inputs coming in from all over the truck, it cannot handle all of them at once (some of the time). In my case, in utilizing a feature in the SXM portion of the unit that allows you to store your favorite songs and albums (click a button and it simply adds it to the list; once that song or album plays ANYWHERE on SXM, the radio will chime and prompt you to select that station so you can listen to it). My locking up issue corresponds roughly with when I had that memory feature completely full. About a month ago I had this hunch so I emptied the memory completely by deleting them (there were maybe 75 saves). It has not frozen or reset since. Furthermore, each and every time the unit locked up, it was playing an SXM station. I am not 100% convinced that this is not mere coincidence, but the fact that that it's not locked up for more than a month tells me that it is not a coincidence.

The memory was not very large to begin with. If I had saved 75 selections total that would be alot. But I had it completely full. Now that it is empty it seems to be working fine.

Thoughts?? Thanks, Ed

I don't use SXM but doesn't it allow you to buffer and rewind your favorite stations? Or is that just the station you are currently listening to?

I have a 2012 that we just bought (Still on the temp tag) and the music stopped playing, even said "stopped" on the bottom of the screen. No radio or bluetooth function and backup camera did not work. when I shut the truck off, the screen stayed on. None of the buttons on the wheel worked either.

I'm hoping not to come out to a dead battery tomorrow
