Don't these have the option to pull the button out and use the key in the slot? My challenger has this option in cast the push button fails. And it is the recommended way to start and stop the engine when installing a tune.
Not that I see.

I have a '17 Ram 1500 with an electronic key fob. It still has to go in to the dash, but isn't a "key" cut from metal. I also have a '19 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the full no key system. I can tell you that the fob for the Ram is WAY bigger than the fob for the Jeep. I just gently push the button and after a second, it starts. I have a '16 Jag F-Type that has pushbutton as well, never had an issue. We also had '15 and '17 Jeep GC with pushbutton. Never ever an issue. My folks have MBs and a Toyota, and a Lexus, no issues there either. Just one guy's experience, but sounds odd that you'd have issues on 2 vehicles. I also have never had an issue with the fob in my pocket. My jeans pockets hold my phone comfortably, and that is way bigger than any fob I've seen. Hope you have better luck in the future.

That's a ******. I have 31k on my 2019- it's my first truck with push to start and I really like it. We have two Grand Cherokees in the house with over 100k miles each and had no issues with their push to start feature. Any clues from the dealer as to why this is a repeat issue- is it shorting out or something?
On a separate note, those think the Ram keys suck to carry around, the Ford keys are bigger and more obnoxious.

I will never buy another key start vehicle.....

Never had an issue with a push button start.... never known anyone that has had an issue with a push button start. Never heard of anyone that has had an issue with a push button start...

My first question is... how hard are you pushing it? it is electronic... just takes a LIGHT touch to start.

You actually have heard of someone that has had an issue with it. You replied in his thread LOL.

I'm with you on liking the push button start. I really like having it, and don't want to go back to using a key or fob to start any vehicle. But just like any other mechanical switch, they can and do go bad. Fortunately they are cheap and simple to replace. Definitely not worth a trip to the dealership if it happens on my truck. I think if the OP was aware of just how cheap and easy he might not have even made this thread.

Like I said in a earlier post I only drive the Laramie. Another guy drives the Bighorn. So different fingers. Oh, I am very conscious to push the button gently these days. These trucks are "built to serve" as the latest RAM commercials state. I imagine a lot of farm hands and construction workers are going silky soft on the push buttons.

This is true. My wifes new Cherokee L is a lot different then our past vehicles with them. I don't like it. Its nice to leave the fob in my pocket, but in the same since I dont mind that my Ram has a key. My roofing fingers arent easy on them either.

I successfully installed the OEM push button start in my 2013 Ram 1500. Since I couldn’t find a single video that goes over the steps on how to install I made one. Hope this helps! You can find the links to all the parts I used for the install in the description of the video.

My 3500 is going in on Wed. and one of the issues is the FOB. I love keyless, but this FOB has been giving me problems. Sometimes starts, sometimes it won't, sometimes it says "touch fob to pushbutton" to start it.
Sometimes the grab handle will unlock when i grab it, sometimes it won't. Service guy says probably dead battery in the fob. I told him it was changed about 5 months ago after doing the same thing. Changing the battery didn't really cure it the first time. It is very intermittent. Will work weeks on end no problem. Then days in a row, nothing but problems. My '17 had the pushbutton start and at 3 years old it still worked with original battery in the fob.
I still love keyless though. I have a MB that uses a key and I have to constantly remember to fumble around for it after I get in and sit in the seat. pita.

Update:
So I took the truck in and they said they flashed the key fob to get it to work properly again. In doing so, now the power tailgate is opening again too.

I've never had an issue or failure with Mopar's push start buttons, and we own a lot of trucks/cars that have 'em. But I can say that over the years I've had a number of problems with keys on ignition switches, trunk locks and even the old glove box locks. I'll take a push switch over a key anyday!

I don’t much care for push button start but it is what It is. I carry way too many keys now, fob makes it easy, just keep in pocket and never have to get it out.
