New here. Joined in May when I purchased a new Ram 2500 Laramie with a Cummins. Circumstances changed and did not need that much truck. Traded last Friday October 22 for a 1500 limited with the non- etorque 5.7.
This morning it started knocking. I took the truck to a local Ram dealer even though I did not purchase from them. They had no 1500s in stock to even look consider trading for. The dealer I purchased from is 80 miles away.
They were very nice and said they would look at it today. The service manager was hoping it was not an engine problem.
Turns out to be coming from the engine. Can’t get to in until Monday but suspects a rod.
Only 370 miles. Pretty disappointed right now. He said he has never seen this before.

He did say with this low miles he would not repair but insist on a new engine.

Well that sucks. The 6.4L in my 2014 Big Horn started making a terrible sound just a few hundred miles into ownership. After the dealer inspected it, and checked on TSBs from Ram, the "repair" required replacement of the engine.

The failure was caused by undersized wristpins at the rod to piston connection.

Never had that sort of problem with my 2017 Cummins.

Good luck!

Thanks. Right now I am wishing I kept the Cummins. It was a 2021 with 4000 miles when I traded.

Welcome, could and has happened with other brands. Sounds like the dealer will get you up and running and you’ll be enjoying your new truck soon.

Well the engine is shot. Metal shavings in the pan. Something came loose and the cam is scored. So a new engine has been ordered. Problem is no idea how long it will be. They have some vehicles waiting on parts for months. Hoping to get an ETA tomorrow but have been told it could be weeks or even months.
I contacted my dealer, the truck is not at the dealer I purchased it from, and told them if it is going to be months I need another solution. Waiting to hear something.

Well still nothing new. The dealer I purchased the vehicle from is not willing to do anything since the vehicle is not in their shop, even though they recommended I take it to a local dealer. The dealer that has the truck is not getting any ETA on the engine. They said they usually get an ETA within 24 to 48 hours. That was Monday.
Gave me a Toyota RAV4 to drive. Ok vehicle but I bought a truck because I need one.
Very frustrating.
So since they can’t get an ETA that seems to me that it is going to be a long time.

FCA should get you a truck if you are stuck with a long term repair time. You should talk to RAMCARES. Subsituting a RAV4 is a joke.

Just talked to the service manager at the dealer where my truck is and he says there are no eta available and the motor and all parts he needs for it are on back order and they have no time frame. Could be months. So I opened up a case with Ramcare. Waiting to hear back from them.

Are their any comparable new trucks available in your area? Hard to believe they can't work a trade/exchange that works for you.

Other than that, this is how it's going these days. Most shops are booked weeks out for simple stuff. If you need non routine parts, that adds more time.

What does Ramcares say about getting you an alternative truck, like now, not just that stupid Rav4... At the very least they should be willing to pay for a third party TRUCK rental.

Just opened the case. Will ask about another comparable truck when they call me back. Suppose to hear from them within 24 hours. I can’t do without a truck for several months. At this point I think the solution is another new truck or my money back.

I was at my dealer two weeks ago. Now I admit they are a small dealer... Nevertheless, the lot was mostly empty. There were 3 trucks on the lot, 2 were fulfilling orders. The unsold truck was a cancelled customer order, which the dealer was happy to take. There was a sign in the service department that listed the 12 new cars that were being delivered in the next month, but 6 were listed as sale already pending. No trucks were on the list. The service manager told me that trucks are in such short supply that the sales department doesn't bother trying to order them for general floor stock. They are only getting trucks with a valid and specific customer whose put down $1,000 down and passed a credit check... which is how I ordered mine a year ago.

Well the new motor is sitting at the dealer. Upper gasket set is backordered and no ETA. Talked to my case worker this morning and complained about having to drive a RAV4 when I need a truck. Tough luck is pretty much what she said. They just are required to supply a vehicle. She also said I could rent one and would not be reimbursed. While I like Ram trucks the customer service sucks.
Probably my last Chrysler product. This Thursday makes 4 weeks.

Pre-pandemic my 1500 ecodiesel tossed a rod at 37,000 miles. The dealer was looking for a replacement engine on Craigslist. But they gave me a fair trade-in towards a new truck. I love the 2500 with the Cummins. I tow a lot, mostly not super heavy, and this truck makes it effortless. I miss the fuel efficiency, but exhaust brake is so cool.

All parts are in. Started the work yesterday. Service manager says truck should be done tomorrow. Hopefully no issues once I pick it up.
