Just purchased a 2022 ram rebel g/t night edition with the 12 inch uconnect system a few days ago. CarPlay was working great up until this morning. The CarPlay button itself just completely disappeared from my Apps page and won't engage my phone into CarPlay. Anyone else have this experience/know of any solutions? Android Auto seems to still be on the Apps page, but CarPlay is neither an option on the "Manage Devices" page or in the Apps page now.

I literally have the exact same problem. Mine is a 2022 ram 2500 larimie with Uconnect 5 I believe. It will only connect to my phone as a regular phone. Doesn’t recognize as Apple CarPlay and CarPlay seems to be missing in the apps. It was working fine for a week after we paired it at dealership. Now it stopped working less than a week later. Plugging directly into usb is no help either. Just keeps searching. Only seems to charge when plugged in. I had it setup to enable software downloads over wifi and setup on home wifi. Hopefully there wasn’t an update flit he. Guess we’re gonna need to take them to dealership. Let me know your outcome.

I have the resolve. Called the Uconnect support team. Here is the fix. Truck running or powered on - Step one. Go into phone and turn off Bluetooth and forget the Uconnect device. Step 2. Go into truck screen Uconnect/phone/device manager/settings and remove your (phone)devices. Step 3. Press and hold power/volume button for at least 10 seconds. This will cause a hard reboot. After the reboot, proceed with the usual pairing process. The “use CarPlay” request should pop up during phone/radio pairing/setup process and everything should be good. Worked for my 2022 ram. CarPlay is available and now working again.

Thanks for sharing! My CarPlay app just decided to reappear one day and it's been working since. I'll probably still go ahead and do the reboot anyways to avoid this in the future. Thanks again

I have a 22 and this is a common problem. Car Play is there and working then all of a sudden it’s gone. On a call and Bluetooth cuts in and out. I’ve had my screen lock up, go black, go white and change screens on its own. Took it to the selling dealer and they said there’s a new update but they couldn’t get it installed. “Just take it and drive it a while and call U Connect assist line if it doesn’t fix itself” was their conclusion. Called assist and was told to take it back to the dealer and have them contact Star for instruction on forcing the update. Dealer said leave it with them for a few days. No loaner, only vehicle I have and a $75k truck that has issues since the day I drove it off the lot.

Just happened to me again. CarPlay just stopped working. Rebooted phone and truck…no help. Had to do the hard reset as I mentioned in the previous post. So I made it 17 days from November 28th until today. Sure hope they figure out the problem and get us an update.

Looks like the Hard Rest is the solution for many 2022 issues. My backup camera stops, hard reset fixes it. The left steering wheel controls stop, hard reset fixes it. But I did find the cause of the steering wheel issue. If you try to use the left buttons (channel changing) while you are in the navigation on your phone, it stops the buttons from working until you do a hard rest. Kind of pain, but at least it's a 10 second fix. I'm sure a software update will fix it.

This also helped my new truck too, thank you for sharing. It keeps happening tho so hopefully they will have an update to fix all of this and the little other little things this new radio does. I tried it the second time without removing my phone from the system and it still worked.
Thank you for sharing!

I'm done with the 2021 truck's many CarPlay problems. When I use the same hardware and cables that work so well in the Honda, guess what? The one factor unique is the truck and UCONNECT. There are too many postings about CarPlay problems that go on for years in these forums. So now I'm using Siri and the bluetooth functionality to retrieve music, answer/place calls & messages, etc. CarPlay gave me the Apple Maps navigation progress, but hey, the dedicated $100 GPS we have has much better routing abilities and lifetime free map upgrades. Having limited navigation on the iPhone's ok, but no match for a dedicated GPS, at least for me. The biggest CarPlay issue I had was the constant media database corruption, forcing the media menus to gray out while the DB rebuilds itself. Right now, bluetooth does a great job and is just plain reliable.

Great news to share. Did this and problems came back. This may not be a permanent solution for everyone. Hard reset to fix the problem? Must be running Android or embedded Linux. Green Hills for the win...

So my truck just performed a automatic media/uconnect update over wifi on the 22nd of dec. it took about 10 min to complete. I will advise in a month or so if I have any further issues with CarPlay and or media system. Current software version listed under system info is FCA-MY22.S21D.5-PROD.

Uconnect 5 FOTA S21D.5 - Released 12/22/21

So far, after this update, I have had two black screens in the last three days. The last one took three hard resets to bring the screen back. I am beyond disappointed that my 2022 has, so far, not allowed me to enjoy the driving experience. The dealer has told me they two or three calls a day about black/frozen screens, and the best they can do is a hard re-boot and have me wait (along with all their other customers) for a recall to finally fix this. In the meantime, whenever it freezes, I lose control over the climate options, radio, and phone.

How frustrating to pay the money we do to own these vehicles and the main ‘hub’ of the vehicle doesn’t work reliably. This is my first Ram that I regret purchasing.

Ok, it’s been a little over a month, today is feb 3 and I have not had any further issues with my CarPlay connection. Let’s hope this was the fix. I will repost here if I have any further problems with Uconnect or CarPlay. So far so go with update S21D.5

2018 Ram 8.4 system.
The CarPlay suddenly disappeared. I tryed everything, reset system, phone reset, delete Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth off. Nothing worked.
I then read Zimmermc’s post, and did the same as he said.
There was CarPlay again, and working properly.
Thank you for posting Zimmermc.

I have a 2022 Laramie 1500 and have had the screen work when it wants to starting a day after we drove it off the lot brand new (less than a month ago). In fact today, I was using the CarPlay listening to a podcast on my iPhone and then out of nowhere the screen goes all white on the truck and no longer pairs with my phone. So very frustrating! I had an update that took approximately 10 minutes about a week ago and I still have the issue. Dealership said they know a software update is supposed to be coming out March/April to fix this known problem. I also called the service number and they said they would call me back because all they know is the 10sec reboot. No call back yet.

I have a 2022 Bighorn 1500 with the 8.4 screen. I'm hitting all the usual problems (I've had the truck a week). I enabled software updates over wifi so now it's connected to my home's wifi. Question: How do I get it to do the update? I don't see a button for that. Or does it just do the update at its leisure? How would I know it did the update? It should really have some system log files or something like that. I set the "key power off delay" to 10 minutes. Can I just turn the truck off and walk away at that point and it will do an update? I guess the truck has its own cellular modem. It has good coverage where it's parked. Maybe it will update over cellular instead of over my home's wifi. I sure wish there was some explicit instructions on all this instead of having to scrounge through forums (not that I don't appreciate everyone's help and knowledge!)

Ramcares@ please read this. I just had another issue with CarPlay. While driving 3 hours on two different days, CarPlay kept disconnecting for a few minutes and then reconnecting. This occurred at least 6-8 times during the 3 hour trip. All navigation stops and is required to restart once CarPlay reconnects. So obviously there is still a problem with Uconnect CarPlay staying connected to the iPhone. All iPhone and Uconnect settings are up to date.
