What do you guys do during the winter for your daily driver trucks?

I put a nice wash and detail on her before the winter weather hit but now it's here. I tried detailing her about a week ago but it's just too damn cold for some products.

I have decided to use a no touch car wash that's brand new in my area. It doesn't do the greatest job but it's gotta be better then nothing?

I took it to the spray wash hit it with high pressure to get as much crap off then hit the touch less wash. When there is nothing touching the paint it's hard to get all the grime off but it does look cleaner.

What are some other options?

Most important thing to do in the winter is keep the salt washed off. I'm the spring pull the trail lights out and house down the bed sides. Fluid film is also a great product to help slow rust.

Use @AdamsPolishes paint sealant that gives you 6 months of protection to your paint and makes it easier to clean. When you swing through the car wash focus all your attention on the underside. If you go a step further Adam’s offers undercarriage spray that offers a thin layer of protection and makes it easier to clean

I am ceramic coated and I use adams shampoo and adams cs3 normally.

I hate built up of mud dirt and grime but with the cold temps it's hard to use some products.

What about water spots from rain and snow and then water from spray wash/touchless wash? I hate having them on there for months but I can't really dry the truck these days properly.

Seems like the high pressure spray then the touchless wash is the best I can do until a random warm weekend where I can get in a full detail or all the way until like march.

Yeah I've heard there are lots of acids/chems or what not in the soaps and wax/coatings they use but not sure what other option there is.

At least nothing is actually touching the paint and rubbing **** into it. I'd Never use the ones with the big rollers or the spray booths with the brush lol.

Honestly man, if you can find a good detailer in town that uses spotless water and you can get a good wash for around $30 - $40 use them ....

Or buy a portable spotless system to use yourself when washing ... then you don't have to even worry about drying it ... I have 275 gallons of spotless water in my 3500 Chevy Express so I can always wash my vehicles at home lol ...

I wash my truck at least weekly at the wand wash. I use the Bug and stain remover first, that lifts the salt and mud so I don't have to use a brush or anything on the paint, followed by soap spray then the clear coat rinse. I know guys say the chemicals are quite harsh but I have done that on vehicles for years up here, no rust problems, and my 96 Ram still has the factory paint. They use a lot of salt, brine etc here as well as having very clingy clay type mud. Salt, mud and the like will do far more damage than the chemicals at the wand or touchless wash.

Thx guys.

I might try the spray booth fully next time and see what the results are. I like it for a High pressure for wheels, wheel wells, and for the crap that gets kicked up on the paint. I figured the touchless wash might be better for the chems and multiple sprayers.

Then build up won’t happen on the paint. Ceramic coating should let everything slide off. I’ve been ceramic coated for 3 winters

Started spending winters in Florida last year and I was waxing my 5W in shorts and a T today :) I’m 70 but still enjoy detailing my truck, RV, etc.View attachment 479162
I would enjoy detailing also in weather like that. Haha. I am in Iowa and our high temp tomorrow is 28. Can't complain much, it has been pretty good weather for Iowa standards so far

That’s pretty cold. I grew up in Ohio and between that and 2 tours of Iceland and one in Newfoundland with the Navy I’ve had my fill of cold weather. We drove across Iowa on the way west this summer and I was surprised how hilly it was and the number of wind turbines

It depends on where in Iowa you are. Some is very hilly, and some is really flat. It does seem to always be windy for sure!! That is why there are so many wind turbines. I am the same as you, done with the cold!! Unfortunately, too young to retire and move south. The moment I can go south in the winter I will. Enjoy your warm weather!!

Haha. Don't be sorry, I am actually a Michigan fan!!!! I have lived in Iowa my entire life, but was a huge fan of Michigan's fab 5 basketball team back in the day when I was in upper elementary school. They made me a Michigan fan ever since!! It was amazing to finally beat that team down south and to win the B1G!!!
