For the past few weeks, I've been hearing this very annoying metallic rattling sound that occurs when I'm accelerating. The strange thing is that it doesn't do this all the time for some reason. I've checked the heat shield(s), the exhaust system, the brake shield before the rotor and all seem good. Is there any other place I should check or is this just something that I'm going to have to deal with? Again, it doesn't make the noise all the time and sometimes, it even starts to go away on its own. Here's what it sounds like:

You should be able to hear a strange metallic rattling, almost buzzing sound aside from the obvious exhaust sound. Sorry for the camera movement...bumpy road lol

Turns out, I may have actually fixed the issue myself. Part of the heat shield material was frayed and a piece of metal wire was sticking out and resting up against the frame rail. My guess is that under acceleration, the vibrations from the exhaust travelled through that wire and through the frame, causing that rattling/buzzing sound. It's kind of strange how a thin piece of wire would cause that problem but last night after I cut that piece of wire off, I have not heard the noise and I didn't hear it this morning either, even under hard acceleration. Fingers crossed it doesn't come back.

I have had pine tree needles under the wiper blades make a hell of a noise at speed.
So have I, although in my experience, that’s usually a consistent noise. It’s sort of like having a rock imbedded in one of your tires. The noise I had just came and went randomly. Luckily the noise hasn’t come back at all ever since I cut off that piece of wire from the heat shield.

Bringing back a super old thread here, but which heat shield did you find this one? Exhaust manifolds? I have what sounds like a chain/metalic rattle that I cannot seem to solve.

Mine makes a buzzing sound only while idling. But not always while idling.

I have a similar problem as you that I have been trying to figure out for almost a year now. Mine sounds like a washer ratting on a bolt at times or a rattling chain. It almost sounds rotation sometimes and only does it under acceleration. Somebody told me it could be the transmission valve body. I have checked the engine pulleys and they're all good. I have a 2015 ram 1500 5.7
