Sounds just like my truck. Totally normal and I wouldn't sweat it. Trust me, a lot of the noise your hearing is coming through the exhaust pipes. Try a mechanics stethoscope on the down pipes and you'll see, or should I say hear what I'm saying.

Sounds just like mine as well. And I came to the same conclusion as @Halligan after poking around with my stethoscope. Exhaust resonance on cold start. Normal operating condition. I’m wondering if it has to do with some emissions controls during cold operation. Not something I’m going to worry about.

This seems to be "normal". My PW does it too and there is a large post on another site with lots of users having the same noise.

I consider that a chirp, and I thought that was just one of the many “normal” noise traits you get with the hemi.

I honestly think it has something to do with the water pump. Mine has always had the noise periodically, sometimes worse than other times.

If you want to spend a Saturday and figure this out, remove the belt and start up cold. You won’t hurt anything running the truck for a minute without the accessory drive belt.

If no squeaks or chirps are heard, it’s one of the pulleys. Spin pulley each by hand and listen for the same squeak or chirp. The frequency will be different as you’re spinning them slower but if something is noisy you’ll hear it.

If you identify the issue, document it, reinstall the belt and make an appointment with the dealer to get it inspected.

Picked up my truck yesterday from the dealer and service guy says it's normal on these. He heard the sound and he fired up a new truck to compare and its also there with the new truck but not as loud. He said it's from the exhaust...something about an exhaust valve actuator. The way he explained it to me it sounds like a butterfly valve that's making the noise but when the exhaust heats up it goes away. He also mentioned the Hemi cars make the noise as well but it's further back in the exhaust due to the location of the valve actuator being further back.

That's a little bit of a B.S. answer from the tech. Some of the performance cars have an electronic actuator for a butterfly valve in the exhaust. My Scat Pack Challenger had them and they are toward the rear of the car. Our 6.4 Ram trucks do not have that feature although there is a butterfly valve in the muffler but it's not powered. It works off of exhaust velocity/flow through the muffler to open the valve. At least your tech is accurate that the noise comes from the exhaust and it's considered normal.

I had a 2010 Ram 3/4 ton with a 5.7 and it also had a the same exhaust resonance through the pipes. I think it has to due with the design of the exhaust on the heavy duty trucks because the 1500 Hemi's don't seem to be as noisy.

I'm pretty sure my new PW has it too. Got about 900 miles on her. I don't seem to notice it once the truck is warmed up. I'm not worrying about it.

My new 2021 is making the same noise too. Drives me nuts, but dealer said it’s normal. I’ve read that it might be the catalytic converter, which we can’t remove by law. But I wonder if it can be replaced with an aftermarket. I’m thinking of getting a new exhaust and would consider replacing the cats if it would fix the squeal.

Belts that are glazed will usually squeak but shouldn't with that low of mileage.

My '21 does it too. It makes a unique squeak/flutter sound at start up when at high idle. After a few seconds, the idle drops and the noise goes away.

Anyone get this figured out?? Such an annoying sound!
Do you have the 6.4 Hemi or the 3.6? If you have the 3.6 it's likely something to do with the belt/pullies. This thread is for the PW with the 6.4.

My new 2020 PW has about 2K miles on it. Every since day one when I start it cold there is a squeal coming from somewhere that almost sounds like a belt - but I don't think it is. It goes away after the engine starts to warm up. Has anyone else experienced this?
I have a 2020 RAM 3500 that does the same thing. The dealer has replaced the belt twice and with in a week it will start to squeal. It only does it when it is cold and alot of humidity. I found out that it has to do with how the belt rides on one of the pulleys. There is no TSB out and now I just live with it. If it never goes away I would push the issue more.

Your exhaust shouldn’t squeal it should rumble the squeal stops when the bearings warm up
