Noticed some rust bubbles under the paint on my 2017 Ram 1500. It's just above the drivers side headlight. Not from a rock chip as the paint/clear isn't broken. Trying to find my "in service" date as I bought the truck as a demo with about 5K miles. Is there someplace to get that date by using the vin? Can't find anything on the Mopar site in my dashboard. Would like to get this taken care of while it is still covered under the rust warranty. Like my truck too much to trade it in on a new one.

Good luck! Perhaps a good faith gesture on behalf of Mopar? Warranty specifically calls out perforation which is rust through.

Demo or not, if you bought in new (never before titled), that date you bought it is the in-service date.

I thought my 2016 was composite because when I rap on it with my knuckles it resonates like it’s painted fiberglass.

My 2016 had just expired in nov by 3 days and they still covered repairing this common issue. I still have to get it to them for repair, hopefully soon.

I bought mine as a demo too. Only 2k miles. The date you bought it is the in service date. Mine is a 2018 and I have the same exact bubbling issue over the passenger side headlight. Chrysler was willing to repair it under the 5 year corrosion warranty but at the last minute I backed out. It’s a body shop run by the dealer. These guys can’t even get an oil change right no less a tricky body and paint repair like that. And I have paint code PXR which is the black granite metallic. Got a ton of metal flake in it and I know they wouldn’t get it right.

About a month ago I hit a deer on my way to work in the middle of the night. It was a small one so it just destroyed the bumper. No damage to grill or hood thankfully, but my body guy is gonna repair the hood when he does the bumper. Just waiting on parts. It’s gonna cost me a little bit, but at least I know it will be done right. Maybe if they were willing to sub the work out to an actual body shop I would’ve considered letting them repair the hood under warranty, but, dealership body shop, no f ing way. I love my truck too much for that.

my 2015 is not fiberglass im sure its aluminum. when I was on a ladder cleaning the roof I could see at some pont the hood paint was peeling and it was repaired. they did a good job being its metallic paint.. common issue with aluminum panels.

Thanks for the replies guy's. If the hood is aluminum why would they be covering the issue under the rust/corrosion warranty? New dilemma is they are offering me what I paid for the truck 4 years ago and 40K miles ago. I really like my truck and the way I have it set up so not sure I want to start all over again. Need to decide if going from a 2017 to a 2021 is worth it.

aluminum oxidizes too... its turns to a white oxidized finish s it corrodes... just ask the guys with the new fords.. strangely its worse when painted as the moisture gets trapped vs the aluminum just building that dull oxidized protective layer if it wasnt.

i have the same problem bubbling above the left headlight. Hardly notice it. Took it in earlier this week. They said they would take care of it but they said bring it back in after the holidays. No perforation, service writer looked it up on his computer and said I had about 10 months left on my rust warranty for my 2017 Ram Quad cab. He was real nice about it, he said might as well get it fixed while it's free. Of course it's not fixed yet, so we'll see. I was going to try to fix it myself with POR 15, but if he said it's free???

Had my 2019 2500 detailed yesterday and noticed the same bubbling above the driver’s side headlight.

Hood is aluminum. Mine did this also. Water collects in the corners of the hood. I discovered to late, but there is a small opening on the underside you can spray into to stop it. I used fluid film.
It won't get worse, mine has been like that for years but I spray it every year also

It’s a known defect due to disimilar metals causing the corrosion. It’s covered if you are still covered under the rust/corrosion warranty

Aluminum corrodes as well, rust is the identifiable term for iron and steel corrosion.
