I hope that doesn't happen. Hemi is the only reason I stuck with Ram since they dropped the word Dodge out of it anyway. That will finish me with newer Ram trucks.
The 2022 I'm getting ready to pick up will in all likelihood be my last truck purchase. My last Dodge Ram was a 1994 with the 318. Not a lot of power but the engine outlasted everything else on the truck. So I fully expect this new Hemi to take me to my grave rumbling the whole way!

I like the Hemi and hope Chrysler continues with the Hemi 8 speed trans combo for years to come. Very good mileage for a full size truck with plenty of power.

Thanks for your info, maybe someone that pulls a load with etorque will tell us if they can tell a difference in pulling a load. Does your truck with the start and stop feature have a manual shut off button like my wife's Grand Cherokee?

Yes, there is a shut-off button. But you have to press the button every time you start the truck if you want to disable stop/start. I will say that the stop/start system on this truck is the best I've ever experienced. It's almost unnoticeable when it shuts off, and only slightly noticeable when it starts the engine back up. But I don't like my engine shutting off, so I installed something called an Autostop Eliminator. Installs in minutes, and still keeps the functionality of the button in case you want to turn stop/start back on. I just don't have to press the button every time I start the truck anymore to disable it.

So what? Just because you say so does not make it so. We'll have to agree to disagree and leave it at that.

At the risk of sounding like a pompous twit ... my reasons (in this argument) are pretty logical though ;)

I get wanting new excitement from a DOHC in a car but you cant beat the torq from a pushrod V8 in a truck. These engines are simple, strong and reliable (provided you take good care of them) they are always looking for ways to make them more efficient and stronger but theres a sweet spot of mixing these two together and keeping them reliable. I love the HEMI.

The regulations are going this direction, but reality is going to be a problem. I just looked up a couple numbers.

1.23E11 gallons of gas were used in transportation in the US
at 25 mpg average combined mileage rating for US cars, this is 3.08E12 miles
the average electric car uses 34.6 kWh/100 miles
This would require 1.06E12 kWh of electricity to replace the gas used for transportation.
In 2020, 4.01E12 kWh of electricity was generated in the US

Replacing all ICE vehicles with EV would require at least 26.5% increase in electricity generation in the US. Once that energy is generated, it will need to be delivered, so the power grid would need to be upgraded. Since most vehicles would be charged overnight, I am not sure if it helps or hurts grid capacity, but it will not be enough without upgrades. Add to this, it takes about an hour to recharge the battery in your EV, and you get about 100 miles out of a charge. This results in 4 hours of standing still to charge for every time you stop for gas on a road trip. The technology and the infrastructure do not support this change.
I fully agree, it isn't workable as it is today. And as vast as the US is, it might work (stress might) in the cities and suburbs but for most of America it isn't going to work nearly as well.
But the city dwelling elite do not care about that or traveling by vehicle, since they fly everywhere.

What do you all think ? here is my take on this, I have owned bunch of those hemis over the years and I think the hemi is a good engine but I think Chrysler need to drop it from production the engine is getting old is not that efficient and begin to be underpowered , I would love to see a 4.0 L straight 6 turbo or smaller displacement dual over head cam v8 turbo in our trucks, I dont think this this will happened but I would love to see it in a near future , I think its time, CHRYSLER ARE YOU LISTENING ?
I think we'll see a 3.0 Turbo to go along with the electric 1500 in 2024.

Ok, that's great for that area, but it is not the case here in Minnesota, and I doubt is the case for the majority of the northern hemisphere, is my point. The charger availability map online shows this pretty clearly.
You doubted that was the case for Flin Flon too ;-).

In Minnesota it's hard to get more than 120 miles from a charger, but not impossible. Keep in mind not every map is going to show all chargers.

Based on Minnesota stereo types I'd expect to be able to pull up to most houses, explain that I'm Canadian, then ask to use their drier outlet to charge while we go ice skating. #MinnesotaNice

That and where does electricity come from on cloudy January days?
Where does gas come from on cloudy January days?

Where does coffee come from on cloudy January days? Just kidding, I know that's Caribou.

Why do people complain about what they drive?
'cause if I complain about my wife she hit's me or cuts me off, and some of us just have to share misery - even if it's self inflicted or imagined.

I 100% agree there is zero chance I would have an electric car or even a Hummer EV, if I could afford it, over my 2016 1500 right now. ...though like the horse and carriage were overtaken by the car when technology, price, and selection improved the same will take place over time.
...or we'll be back to a horse and carriage when our electric RAM isn't charged in the morning :D

The ZF in the TRX and 6.4 is NOT the same ZF in our earlier 4th gen trucks - it has a much higher torque capacity rating. The one in the 4th gens torque rating wasn't really that high - 516 ft.lb vs. 1000 ft.lb for the new 6.4 ZF 8HP75.

What you are thinking of is the tow rating standard that is used for max towing.
What you list above is identical on both 3.21 and 3.92 except for a minor measured performance change - very minor with 8 speed in play. But there is a significant change in load on the transmission and rear gear between the 2 ratios.
Are you sure the 1000 lb. ZF 8-speed is a 8HP74? The last time I saw a transmission torque rating only the 8HP90 gets that high. In ZF lingo, the "75" is the torque rating.

Dusty

Cities and suburbs are where most American's live, so that would be a big help if it worked out. Even in less populated areas you tend to get clumps of people and areas they travel that are relatively small.

That being said, rural may be less of an issue than many think. I have family in the boonies with EVs. They mostly charge at home, and rarely go far enough to need to find a charger.

And what is the range on a 0F day? With heater on full?

I read some about the Ford gassers last evening. The 6.2L V8 introduced in 2010 in the half ton raptor only. Now they don't offer in half ton anymore, but base engine in the heavy duties.

Sure seems like a Hemi 6.4L knock off, from what I read. I was surprised to see the valves arranged in a perpendicular crossflow ("hemi") arrangement! The only difference is Ford used a SOHC so they don't have gravity oil drain issues with the cam-in-block like hemi does. Ford also has 2 plugs per cylinder.

I know it's water long over the dam, but if Ram had just used OHC maybe the hemi would have been basically a flawless engine?

Ford's 7.3L V8 looks like just a pig to me, based on the specs and bad mileage. I've heard from friends the new Ford diesel is pretty good, but again, $$$$$$$$$$$ and the exhaust chemical factory.

What's the range on a 90F day? Depends on the vehicle. Many offer pre-heating, which greatly reduces range impact on shorter trips (ironically where most don't have range anxiety)

If you head over to youtube and type the name of any EV available over a winter season and you'll get pages and pages of results with people all too happy to share winter experiences.

This 8 minute SaskTesla video has him leaving a model 3 (similar range to a Lightning) unplugged at 0F to see the impact on mileage and what not, looks like it's estimating 120miles when he sets off after warming it up (about 30% loss).

This 23 minute Engineering Explained video has almost a million views on the subject with his Tesla 3 (similar range to a Lightning) at 0F I recall he saw a 18% reduction.

This is not to say the F150 is all bad. It's an excellent truck, more capable in many ways than the Ram has arguably the better 10 speed transmission than the 8 speed in the Ram.
Last time I checked, Ram doesn't have pending ligation against them for ZF transmission in their vehicles like Ford does for the 10spd.
The ZF HP series is used by multiple manufacturers included BMW, Audi, Bentley Rolls Royce, to name a few.
I think your confusing more gears means it's better. Why Ford had to join with GM to develop the 10 spd was due in part to ZF telling Ford it's not worth the extra weight and complexity.
