I recently removed the tail lights on my Ram to inspect the area inside the fender where rust generally starts to form in between the panels. I had to remove several small rocks (rather difficult BTW) that we’re lodged in there. On my last truck, I had a rock get stuck in there and eventually pushed a small bump out on the outer fender. Basically a reverse dent. Any ideas on what I could put in this area behind the fender to keep small rocks and sand out?

Wheel well liners, mud flaps, get some sort of flexible plastic and fab up a panel to close off the quarter panel behind the tire.

Yeah, I already have wheel well liners and mud flaps. I was wondering if using window screen to close off the opening would help. I don’t know if hot glue would hold it in place driving down the highway. Maybe strong magnets?

Interesting that you've seen them create pimples in the past. Do you live in a cold climate?

Up here in the rust belt, that is one of the very first place you spray with Fluid Film or equivalent.

Not really…southern Kansas. I recently sprayed 3m cavity wax in that area. Our roads are brine/salt treated but not nearly to the degree North-easterners have to deal with. I live on a gravel/sand road which is part of my problem. I generally don’t go above 20 on my road but that’s still fast enough to kick sand up between those panels apparently.
