Installed the steps and hardwired em.
They work great, but noticed that my dome lights are somehow connected to them now.
Truck is a 2018 Laramie CTD.

If I'm inside of my truck and the steps are tucked, I cannot control the dome lights by pressing them. Domes can still be used with the dimmer switch.
If the steps are extended (door open or within the 3 seconds of closing the door before they retract), I have full use of the dome lights.

Has anyone had this issue?

Can’t answer your question, but I have an ‘18 that I installed the AMP boards, but used the plug n play method. No issues like you have. You could call AMP, but in the mean time, just recheck your wiring connections.

I would recheck the wiring. Sounds like you may have crossed something or taped the wrong wire.

Splicing into or tapping the wiring harness is not without risk. I would use the PnP method mentioned above. Even better, buy a Y-splitter for the OBD and that keeps your OBD connector open for diagnostics and such and the AMP OBD adaptor plugs into Y-splitter connector. Not sure if the OBD adaptor is include in step kits today. Wasn't back in 2016 when I installed mine and was an optional accessory. OTT, agree, recheck wiring and connections.

One reason I don't like AMP steps besides the fitment issues ....

I have the RBP steps and they use magnets on the doors to trigger the steps, so much better in my opinion ... no tapping into any wires, just the power to battery, ground and the magnets on each door ...simple easy and effective

I would double check the wiring, you must have mis-wired something?. Mine work fine with no issues (I have the hard wired version)

So update, I re-checked the wiring.
Its all wired in correctly.

I then completely disconnected all the trigger wires (only thing tapped into any wiring,) and I'm still having the issue.

With nothing wired to the truck except for the control box to the +/- and its leads to the steps, I'm still having the issue. Removing the fuse gives me full control of the lighting with the doors closed. I'm really confused now.

So with wiring to trigger steps = no control of lights with steps retracted, only when they're extended.
Trigger wires removed, leads to steps/lights in place, control box still powered = no control of lighting with doors closed (would be steps retracted.)
Fuse removed from control box, removing source of power = lights work.

I'm now extremely confused. I've chased wiring gremlins before, but this is a weird one.

Oh this sucks man .... I am going to ask the guy who owns the shop where I got my truck lifted, he is all in love with AMP steps, he might know something ...

Sucks a lot. I like the steps, unfortunately the dome lights (and who knows what else) is more important to me than not having to hop in the truck

Ok so here it goes ... dude says to check out the master switch in the door ? ...
After completely removing all wiring, it seems I got excited and was mistaken. The dome lights still only work with the door open, and for about 3 seconds after closing the door. The nearest ram dealer is about 1.5 hours away and I've been there twice now to try and figure this out, both times they've blamed me.

Looks like I have to go a third time. Everything needing to be controlled by a computer is extremely annoying.

This should have nothing to do with your steps....

The dome lights on your roof are driven by 2 separate circuits, a "Courtesy" light circuit (turns on when a door is open and can be used to trigger the steps) and a "Reading" light circuit (supplies power to the light for push button operation)

Sounds like your "Reading" light circuit is dead or has a wiring issue if you can not turn them on by pushing them. It is driven from the BCM C7 connector Pin 13.
I bet your glove box and vanity mirror lights do not work either when you open it (it's tied to the reading light circuit as well)
