So I ran into a store for 10 minutes and come out to find my 2 month old truck being kissed by a runaway mustang. At first I was dumbfounded to see it empty and then began to fume a bit. The owner evidently left the car in neutral and didn't set the parking brake! (can you say head-up-their-*ss?)

It was a smaller lot so I couldn't park as far away as I like to, but in typical fashion I was away from other cars in a near-empty aisle (along side another like-minded RAM, leaving a space between, lol).
Thankfully it was a pretty level lot and it didn't gain much momentum but definitely made impact.
I proceed to take pictures and wait for the owner to come out. I took his info and when all is said and done I see there isn't a scratch on the bumper as his brake light hit squarely into it, cracking his lens. Not sure how a plastic bumper would've fared - I'd imagine some scratches at the least.

I'm not a chrome fanatic but it just shows it does its job well as a "bumper".

Just another scenario to now look out for when parking....

Approximately 35 years ago I had just purchased a 1971 Jimmy. Picked it up at lunch time and brought it back to the shop.

As I was leaving at the end of the day, one of the owners of the business came flying (my impression) from a slightly rear and to the right of my parking space (I was headed forward) with his Jetta, and we collided.

Damage to the Jetta - $1700 (1986 dollars - double or triple it today). Damage to the Jimmy - not a discernible scratch or scuff on the chrome bumper. Damage to my pride for wrecking the Boss's car - immeasurable.

Was parked getting fuel at the gas station right beside the Ford dealer in Hay River. Young fellow comes rolling up to the pump with his brand new Ford Ranger. Well, it was slippery and icy, so don't know if he skidded or just misjudged but he smacked right into the back of my Ram when the truck was still new, about 15,000 miles. Walked around back, his front bumper had a huge V in it. He hit square on my rear trailer hitch. Not a mark on my Ram. Told the fellow, he could try mating that tiny truck with mine but it still wouldn't turn out full size puppies. He didn't see the humor, his truck had less than 2 miles on it.

Looks great with that color too...
Thank you! I always have others with RAMs ask who did it ... I tell them me and then they ask "how much would you charge me for both of mine" ... I quote them $600 and conversation is over lol ....

I did my buddies as well, his was actually first then mine and they both came out good, but yes on Delmonico Red, black looks good with it ....

@CAG CheechDogg Those are some nice wheels man! Also liking the bedliner coated things you have done, great idea and it looks good.
Thanks a lot man, I waited a while for those wheels lol ... and the bedliner on the bumpers, grill, bed and "FLENDER FLARES" like my wife calls them was her idea ...

I wanted to color match everything and she said no you should do black ... but I didn't like the look of just black paint either matte or gloss against this color so I got the idea of doing everything with the bedliner since I was already going to do my bed lol ....

Glad it worked out well for your Ram.

For what it's worth, that's one reason I always keep my Tow hitch / ball attached as another barrier. :waytogo:

Was at a walmart a couple years back, backing out of my parking spot. Was all the way out in the center of the aisle, then bump! A young kid whipped his small car out of his spot across the aisle and over a couple spaces, and his drivers fender above the tire gets a nice dent in it from contact with the bottom right corner of my rear bumper.

He's out of the car with his buddies, and they start trying to antagonize me, spouting off about standing their ground, trying to get me to advance on them, which didn't work, btw. I just said it was a 2 way street, he could come to me, and I was prepared to stand my ground, too.

So after a few minutes, he's looking at the damage, and says, "Your truck doesn't have a scratch on it." My Wife says to him, " I guess you should've bought a truck then, huh?" It was all I could do to keep from busting out laughing.

Funny you mentioned that.... it's one of the reasons I went with a 2500 hood, and now that I have, I keep noticing the ones with a scoop. Definitely takes it up a notch on the badass scale.

I have a Vararam, and thinking I'd likely have to give that up.... but not sure.

Any taller and your gonna have to install a set of drop down ladder to get in.:waytogo:

Glad your truck took no damage. But just to let you know, all 5th gen bumpers are steel. We don't have plastic bumpers on our trucks. The chrome did keep you from getting paint scratches though.
