What's the recommended psi to run with for a set of Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws. I just bought some for my 2018 Ram 1500 and the tires have a load range of 119s, so a D1 load index. My previous tires were KO2s with the same load range and load index and I always ran them between 48-50 psi with zero issues. Is it safe to assume I can do the same with the Falkens? When I got the new tires put on, I told the service tech to set them all at 48 psi because that's what I always ran my KO2s at. I understand that a light truck tire can run on a higher psi than a p-rated or passenger tire but I'm only asking about normal daily driving and not in terms of hauling anything.

Oh wow. I guess the huge difference in pressure is due to frequent towing?

Nah, off-roading a lot, and lazy. I air the tires down , too lazy put them up higher. It's usually raining or cold, after 12 hours, get tired :)

Normally I do have them 55 and 45 though range though. or 55/50

lol ok. Well, I contacted Falken just to be sure and so I'm waiting to see what they say. I also did a tire pressure conversion chart on tirepressure.com and it said that for a tire of that size with that load index and load rating, a psi of around 50 is recommended in order to have the same load capacity as a P-rated tire at 39 psi. I believe 39 psi is what the OEM tire was supposed to be at under normal driving conditions. So, I think that 48 psi will do just fine. My KO2s lasted almost 70k miles with even wear on all 4 tires, all while running them between 48-52 psi at all times.

50-55 seems like good range.

I don't mind the tires, I order some of their M/T tires so I don't wear theses out too fast.

Load range/rating is 119s so a D load index. Stock OEM P rated tire is supposed to be run at 39 psi cold (I suppose for normal daily driving) and in order for the Wildpeaks to have the same load capacity as the oem tires did at 39 psi, they need to be run at 48-50 psi according to a tire pressure conversion chart. Of course you could run them lower then that if you wanted to.

Just heard back from Falken. They say to inflate to 55 psi to get the same load capacity as the factory tires at 39 psi.

Recommended psi can be derived from tire size and load rating. I run my 315/70/17 at 36 psi cold. Ran 37x12.5x17 at 32psi cold. If you know how to read the TRA tables is super easy to calculate what you need based on your door sticker or actual axel max limits. Rest is internet BS.

Run them at the PSI recommended on the door jamb of the truck. Tire manufacturer's charts are never going to be accurate with all the variations in vehicle weight and passenger and cargo loads.

I have never found that some third party PSI recommendation was accurate for any of my vehicles. The chalk test is also nonsenese but this misinformation is continually being passed along. After 2K miles I can see if there are wear problems and if the inflation if too great or not enough. Whenever I have deviated from the vehicle manufacturer's PSI I have had uneven wear.

Only time to wing it is on sand where one needs to lower the tire pressures and make their best guess at the time.

On my "16" 2500 cclb I'm running their M/T's at 42 psi cold, the ride is good. After several thousand miles (all on road) and 2 rotations the wear is doing excellent.
The OEM recommended tire pressures for the Transforce tires I thought were a bit excessive 70 frt, 80 rear.

You run a tire that states MAX tire pressure is 60 psi cold at vehicle OEM recommended pressure (2500 is 80 psi rear), not only will you wear out the center of the tire, the ride will be more harsh and above all you will increase the chance of a blowout.
Depending on the time of year and road and air temperature, the air pressure can rise anywhere from 5 to 10 psi, not a good idea.

At3W's 18" Stock Tire "C" Rated. I run at 41-42 PSI. Great wear and ride. Now, I am not towing, would pump up if towing, but I would not do 51, more like 45/46. If I ran 51 normally, be too jitterily a ride unless loaded. Per tire, Max load 2756 lbs @ 51 psi. 5 ply "C" Tires

PSI on the door jam for my truck is 39 psi. When I had my KO2s on, I constantly ran them at 48-50 psi because that is what BF Goodrich says you need to have them at in order to have the same load capacity as the OEM p-rated tires did at 39 psi. However, for regular daily driving, you can get away with a lower psi I’m sure. Regardless, the tires lasted over 60,000 miles (close to 70,000) and had perfectly even wear. Falken says to run the Wildpeaks at 55 psi in order to have the same load capacity as 39 psi for the factory tires. I have them currently at 48 psi but I’m going to try them at 40-42 to see what happens.

I had those on my old truck and when unloaded I ran about 32 psi front and rear. Had good even tire wear and didn't need a kidney replacement every year!

Forgot about this when writing yesterday. An old trick I have used is finding a large parking lot where you can drive in a straight line. Take a piece of chalk and make a stripe across the tread on all 4 tires. Drive a short distance in a straight line checking the tires after a short distance. Look at were the chalk wears off first, that will give you an idea if you need to add or remove air pressure until the chalk wears evenly across the tire tread. That's the pressure you want to run your tires for that amount of load in the truck. Hope you can make sense of what I mean. lol
