Shouldn't the cord be 6 feet long ?

There is a well known company called KAT's
Their Block heaters & parts are sold by brick & mortar stores & online

Replacement Cord for Kat's Heaters Immersion Heaters and Block Heaters - 120V - 6' Long

if you look at the bottom of the Etrailer page
they have different lengths
1 foot, 5 foot, 10 foot

Ever gets that cold here, the only place left to go south is Mexico.

I actually leave mine on overnight. Currently 2014 1500 Outdoorsman
Ditto...even if I hafta pay 100 bucks or so over the winter, I'm thinking it'll help with the engine's longevity. I like keeping my vehicles as long as I possibly can!

WE where only -32 last night, shirt weather, SW Sask. Mine is a 14 , but the cord was all zipped tied by the Rad, left side, I have it just at the top of the rad, and when I plug in , open hood, plug in extension cord.
No one can take my cord as the end is inside the hood. I have a garage, so don't plug in unless we are are away from home.
BTW I started mine one time -45 , the power went out, It ******* and moaned a bit. winter on the farm, -30, it was always plugged in. never know when you may need to go somewhere.

Question - how long should I leave my heater plugged in (EcoDiesel)? I have a timer set for 2 hours in the AM, and when starting the engine the temp still shows very low.

Should i leave it on longer?

Thanks
The block heater isn’t for your comfort (although that is a side benefit), it’s to make starting easier with better lubrication in cold weather. When I plug mine in it’s when I get home until I go back out. It’s basically personal preference.

I normally leave my 6.4 gas plugged in four hours before starting. I don’t think the block heaters get super hot.

Here in the North, we usually plug the block heater and a trickle charger into a coiled up 6 ft cord under the hood.

Go to Canadian Tire and get one of these. No more opening the hood to coil and uncoil the extension cord and they will hold up to a 30' no problem. Cost about 14 bucks. It is called a Zerostart extension cord holder. If you add a Little Buddy in car warmer from Canadian Tire you will never have to scrape windows again.

Some people use a computer plug type in on their block heater cord
fits perfectly on this type of grille
then you can use the female plug to keep the weather & debris out of the exposed half

My '21 block heater cord is also too short to do anything with after cutting the zip ties. I used a 3 ft appliance extension cord to get it over the hood.

i dont even bother with a timer . just plug in all night. ive got much bigger things to worry about than a couple extra dollars on the power bill. all night keeps the engine hotter anyways

One of the ways a lot of folks set their rigs up here in the interior is to get a shorter, 6-10 ft 12AWG arctic rated cord with a triple receptacle on the end and plug a pan heater, block heater and a battery blanket/pad into it, then run the plug out to and accessible spot on the front.
another option would be to build a 4 plex exterior rated bell box, and use a flex-grip connector and then you can run as long a cord as you need, coil it up on the rig to stow it, and then just run that cord to your plug in or timer.

I know my older 2011 2500 6.7 CTD is set up differently than your newer rigs; however, I thought I show the aftermarket plug I bought & installed to make for easier pluging and unplugging of the block heater. I bought my block heater plug from Gino's Garage back in 2018, the year I bought my rig.

I love that I can plug the extension cord from my garage into the recepticle using only one hand. Many times when I come from work or the store, my other hand usually is holding something. I also love that the spring loaded cover automatically covers the 3-metal prongs. This helps keep snow and other debris from getting packed around the prongs. In my case, the recepticle mounts to the front bumper without needing to drill any new holes. There is a mounting plate behind the front, so when the screws were tightened, it clamps onto the bumper holding it securely in place. I live in the Carson City/Lake Tahoe/Reno area of northern Nevada. Last night Tahoe got down to -4F. I usually leave my truck plugged in overnight during the cold winter nights.

I had one of those on my 2017, great mod. There’s a Canadian company selling a magnetic cord that is even better……but expensive.
