At 75 I run mine through the $5 car wash then dry the spots off in the Vacuum area watching the pretty girls climbing all over their Jeeps. Keeps a fella young I'll tell ya..

Truck lives in the garage and when I do wax it it takes a few days. I use Glass Wax pre cleaner and then Glass Wax Ultimate Polish. Been using that product since my '62 Corvette.

Well, since everyone is divulging their age, I'm 68 and always wash and detail my own truck ... Takes a full afternoon ... 1) clean, vacuum and detail the interior ... 2) hose down the exterior and get all the loose stuff off, then out with the soap bucket and mitt ... 3) get out the chamois and dry it off ... 4) wax one section at a time and buff ... 5) shine up the tires (rims done during the wash) ... 6) clean all windows .. I also use 00 steel wool on the exterior of the windshield and it does a great job making it, see through, like new ... I also stocked up on some products by Barrett-Jackson when I was at the Palm Beach auction in Florida while visiting the in-laws ... I still have a couple of bottles left, but since I can't get the stuff in Canada my go to products are Meguiar's ...
PS: since it's winter, touchless car wash when the temperature permits, until spring ...

So how I do things. Do the motor first when cool and then my wheels. I snow foam my exterior first and let the dirt run off. On a normal just wash I’ll spray that off refoam the vehicle and wash it. Spray it off completly. Reapply foam and then wash it. If you have access to a blower or a air machine it works best. Thats the normal wash in the detail world.

You’ll notice there are more than a few guys 70 and up who still maintain and pamper their trucks. We all were young and into our cars during the 60’s, when what you drove was more than just transportation…it was part of you. Chevy big and small blocks, hemis, the first few years of Mustangs, GOATS, 442’s, etc, were real time to us and not mega-cost “classics”. We had 1/4 miles marked off on any remote road that was nearby and used them. I’m 70 and thankful that I lived (and survived) those wonderful 60’s and the fabulous cars of the era. No seatbelts, steel dashes, 2 ply wide ovals, 28 cent gas, hell yeah! Lol. Happy New Year to all!

I'm 52 and decided years ago that I like to own things, but I don't want my things owning me.
If my truck is really dirty, I'll run it through the local car wash. That's about it.

If I really really wanted to detail it, I'd pay someone. I don't see the sense in having a truck if I have to constantly wash & wax it. It's a truck. To each his onw I guess.

I am 58 and still do all my own hand washing, clay bar, polishing and even ceramic coatings on my cars, truck and even a motorhome. It keeps me young !!
All that makes me older…..:hahano::laughing1:

all you YOUNGSTERS....lol I'll be 74 next month and am a fanatic about a CLEAN vehicle and L.E.D. lights, especially windows. I power wash my truck whenever it gets dirty, especially in the Winter. As for detailing, I use a "GOOD" ceramic coating once a year and that's about it...

Plus, not sure about other states but, here in Ohio we have a multitude of NEW Car Washes being built. Ones that you pay a yearly fee and get as many washes as you want.. This definitely makes keeping you vehicle much easier...

I need to clean/detail the interior of my truck, can anyone recommend a good product for dash board and steering wheel. I just had to go down to install security cameras for my mom and on the drive home noticed how bad it looked and feels. My dad always used Armor All for everything.

I really like Adam's products, but their interior detailer isn't that great IMO. Not sure what others find to be really good, but I always thought armor all was ok...left it really shiny and kinda greasy. I guess I haven't found anything that is just amazing on the interior...

Armor-all will actually “attract” dirt and dust. Petroleum based products will do that.

Give 303 Protectant a try. Might have to order online depending upon where you live, but it’s the only product I’ll trust on “non-leather” dashes, steering wheels, seats and trim

I love 303 ! I use it even on my tires now, I scrub them and spray them, let it sit for a bit then go around them with some of the tire shine I have ...

But 303 is good for everything! lol ...

Yep.... same here. Basicslly use it on anything rubber or plastic.

Found does a great job on the Bak4 cover too.

I'm 62 and the only car I have just done a wash job on was a oxidized blue car I owned in the 1980s. Nothing you do to that paint could make it shine except for when it was wet. Every other car I've owned and I've owned many vehicles, each wash job was a detailed job also. Although I only do the complete upholstery cleaning about twice a year.

I will go with 303 then, But which are you actually talking about? Or both clean then protect?

Automotive Interior Cleaner (#30588)
Automotive Protectant (#30382)

Interesting note for the BAK4, thanks
You can easily get away with just the ‘Protectant’ as long as you clean the item thoroughly. If there’s tons of Armor- all on it fir example, then I’d get the cleaner too. But then again AA doesn’t last long.

West Marine carries it as well :waytogo:
