I’ve got the same problem with my 2018 1500 and it drives me crazy plus it can’t be good for the transmission slamming into park.
I’ll probably screw with it tomorrow since I’ve gotta install some interior lighting.

That was put in by US Law under NHTSA. U R in London, may not be programmed the same. If US truck, like 2015 on will have when BCM routinely flashed or installed I think it was 2017/18 where they were auto installed under NHTSA.
Must be all canadian rams. I just realized at work ( auto tech) that I back up in all of them with no belt done up to line the hoist up or back further up so I can open the doors all the way and lube the hinges.

They claim that this was the reason for the Safety Seat Belt software change

it is odd sometimes my 2020 auto parks when trying to go in reverse with door open and sometimes it does not. For kicks I tried it a couple days ago and it went both forward and backward with the door open no seat belt on. I went out and tried again and I was able to back up door open no seat belt without issue.

If U have your Foot on the brake slightly and not going real fast the truck will do that.

makes sense and I can never imagine needing to back up going faster than a snails pace.

I was thinking that the door switch might be an easier bypass. If that works then neither the seat belt nor the brake would be a factor. 5 minute job?

Besides in a 2014 and a 2016 my overhead console lights are always out anyway?! (my fix there is $1, literally. Walmart has battery lights with a push button and with a little velcro you are in business). Not trying to hijack so will create a new thread)

I have a 2013 1500. The dealer updated mine during a service visit. They told me there were some outstanding recalls thar needed done. This was one of them. I'll take WILD ONE'S advice from now on and get more info first.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

My 2018 came configured with that feature ( cough cough). I use the seat belt extender method.

On my 14 sport ,it was not turned on, looked through the on the radio and found on/ off for this.
it was about the time there was talk about this a while back, I have not tried to turn it back off again, but see no reason why not. When I first got the truck, 2-3 times I would turn to R and not Park if I did not look. I have the big radio , touch screen with Nav 8.?

Why can't you jump the seat belt buckle wires to always make the system think the seatbelt is buckled? I did this on a previous car to disable the annoying chime. Might solve two birds with one stone.
Why cut into wires. see post #9. Also, there are thread shortcuts on how can turn off the chime, just see the light flashing if conditions not met for seatbelt use.

My 17 will back up with the door open, but I will open the door after I put it in reverse.

I have a 2020 and I can’t backup with the door open. It was a little unnerving the first time it happened.

well for kicks I just checked and it still goes in reverse with no foot on the brake and even giving it a little gas. weird because I know it used to go into park under the same situation. ie no seat belt buckled, in reverse, open door...foot off the brake..

To get rid of the "annoying chime" I did this and it works great.

I just wanted let people know that the same procedure for the 09-18 disable works on the 19’ as well. Simply put belt on, turn key on, wait till everything boots up in the cluster then Unbuckle and buckle three times while finishing with it buckled. Turn ignition off and you should hear a chime. No more belt alert.

You'll find the safety issue has been around all the way back to probably 2005, each year they added another thing ut does. But I remember the computer update for the older models as a recall. After a certain year it was standard programming.
Not sure what year the recall started tho. In the older models it was just opening the door set off the horn to honk. Newer editions have autopark.

Have a read, my older trucks have no recalls done on them at all, nor do I plan on it.

My 2015 got it as a Canadian recall in 2016 after Anton Viktorovich Yelchin ran over himself in his Jeep. My 2020 had it straight from the dealer.

My 2015 was disabled in 4 low for launching a boat or climbing ramps, but my 2020 seems intermittent.
