I just wrap the axle with a trash bag. I use a plastic garbage can lid with several holes drilled near the center upside down on my drain funnel. Lots of coverage for auto transmission pans too. Drained a 2019 limited and it didn’t hit anything.
Since I started in this business 60 years ago I have seen lots bad service situations.

I use a center punch to make a hole in the bottom on my 7.3 Superduty, it holds about 1 1/2 quarts. I made a mell of a hessonce when the full oily filter slipped out of my hand on to the driveway.
Been there, done that lol

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks - something I'll keep in mind the next time I out there showing my 17yo daughter how to change the oil. Now, she has a 2011 Smart Fortwo that was gifted to her with 19k on it (yes, 11 years old and only 19k!), talk about easy, except the drain plug is a little awkward to get at esp since it's either a 24 or 25mm, so bought her a wrench just for that, easy peasy.

What is the best oil filter relocation kit for the 2019 RAM 4x4 5.7?

Same setup since the beginning of the 4th gen and probably earlier. It’s not the worst or hardest to do but definitely annoying. I installed a filter relocation kit so my filter wasn’t above the crossmember on my 2017.
Which relocation kit did you use? And, where did you mount the new one? Thanks.

Well if you didn't buy the RAM because it was a better truck than the Toyota then you made a serious mistake. Personally I don't like the looks of the older or new Toyota. The new ones have some really odd thinks. People complain about the seats and the electronics being not up to RAM standards.

I use my topside oil changer I bought for my boat. It will suck out the oil from the dipstick. Less mess. I heard some imports stopped coming with drain plugs in favor of vacuum oil extractors.

That takes care of the oil hitting the sway bar issue, but not the oil filter mess. Of the two, the oil filter can make much more of a mess. I just installed a Fumoto valve in place of the drain plug. It has a small extension that I connect a hose to and the oil all drains into the drain pan with zero mess from that. I've been using the double zip loc bag trick for the oil filter, and that keeps most of the mess away. But I haven't been able to totally eliminate the issue with the filter.

That’s why I save any large pieces of cardboard I get oil lands on the cardboard plus it adds insulation from the cold concrete I had 2 different 2015 pws both had their oil filters on so tight l ripped them in half trying to get them off

Ripped off the stupid plastic funnel thing that limited access to the filter rags take care of the mess and it’s underneath anyway

Cummins guys can relate a little. The drain plug drains like a garden hose and then add wind & you're living a nightmare. This was my first oil change and Fumoto replaced it.

I enjoy reading about all the different methods you guys come up with to change the oil in your Rams. Some really good ideas, but I have a really simple method that I've been using now for about the last 20 years. It's my local Dealership, they change the oil in all my vehicles and for the first 24 months my oil changes on my 2019 Ram Laramie 4x4 were free and I had it changed every 3000 miles since I wanted to get my money's worth ha ha ha ! Now that the free changes have run out I go with the offer that Ram has through the dealership it cost me 33.00 per change and the only trick is you pay for three changes the first time then you go back for two other oil changes at no charge since you have already paid. You cannot go and buy seven quarts of oil and a filter for that price not counting your time ,labor and mess. They also rotate my tires with the oil change and make sure all have correct pressure. O yea I don't have to dispose of the old oil and filter. I changed my oil for many years since my first car back in 1967 but after I turned 50 I just got tired of doing it and I'm now 70 and I haven't missed it one bit.

In 35 years of owning vehicles I have never not changed my own oil. But after 2 DIY changes on my 2019 1500 Hemi I am very happy to pay someone else to do it from now on. ‍

My KTM might have it beat for being more annoying but haven't gotten the truck yet so we'll see how it rates
