I have a 2015 ram 4x4 1500. The clad chrome wheel covers are flaking at places and I am looking for something else without spending tons of money on new wheels. I am look for thoughts/advice from those of you who have used the plasti dip? Can you paint over the clad chrome? Is that a long and drawn out process? Should I look at some other black wheel covers? I have heard that it is a beast to get the factory clad chromes off? Thanks for all your input. I guess this sounds lazy but I am looking for the least expensive and least amount of work alternative. I just don't have a lot of spare time. Thanks!!

I would remove the clad and then plasti dip it if it were me. I did that on my clads and it didn't hold up. Its a process to get the clad off and clean. I think I had about 2 hours in each wheel. I had mine powder coated. Your center cap wont work, but if you are ok loosing the Ram head I can get you the center cap that works.

I've tried both plasti dip and covers because I hated the factory wheels, I say paint them. Finally I got rebel knock offs, when you need tires I would recommend them. Plasti dip becomes permanent after a while, there aint no getting it off after a few years, and then you can do nothing. You can also get them powder coated.

Hate these things, they wouldnt be half bad if they were chrome or even stainless, but whatever this cr ap is, I hate it. Now, I'm just the kind of guy who hates waste, so I wanted to use up the factory rubber up, so I was trying to make it livable. Plasti dip seamed the better choice between caps or dip, but they get a rust color to them and then you have black rust looking rims with no way to change it. The dip becomes so attached you can scrub it when you wash your car and not remove any of it. Mind you when I say scrub I don't mean muscle it, but you can use soap and a MF mitt and wash good and none comes off.

Chrome caps were better, but ruined wheels, which was ok because I hated them anyhow.

Finally the upgrade, lived with plasti dip over 5 years, now even though they look ragitty, it still looks better then oem trash, but it would have looked better painted matte.

@Burla they make black clads that will go over your factory wheels. I know you have the rebel wheels now. As long as they didn't come with the chrome clad, they sell black ones as well as the chrome ones you put on.

Plastidip will take several coats to do it right - around 4 to 5. At this point, you could always just use some rattle can paint and paint them a color you want. Heck, you can even color match spray paint at the parts stores now, I think.

I bought plasti dip 4 can and 2 cans of primer. I have a Dodge Ram Laramie . Should I do the center caps also? It’s 60 degrees here where I liv . Is that warm enough to apply it?

X2 on painting. Plastidip will work until you don't like the looks of the chipping.

I have my 2014 Dodge Ram Laramie and i have a level kit on it. I have 33” tires on it now, yet I’ve bought 35” tires . Do I need to put a lift kit on it?

Has anyone attempted to paint these? Assuming a lot of prep work, but curious if it has been done…

I love the look of these wheels, but I’d prefer them a different color…

I just bought 2 cans of this for my grill slats, reviews claim its much better than plasti-dip.

Throwing out another option, especially since they offer a gloss black version.
