I have searched and searched but cant seem to locate the exact location of my evap purge valve on a 2010 Ram 1500 SLT. There are lots of videos showing the 2012 and up but i dont think mine is the same. My gas cap light came on and wont go off. I tried replacing the gas cap with the OEM gas cap last night. My obd2 code reader wont be here until later today in the mail. I will use it and the torque app on my phone to see which code its throwing. According to auto zone its not throwing a code at all which cant be if the light is on.

So my question to you guys is , can someone show me or tell me where the evap purge valve is? I have a picture of what my replacement part looks like but I cant tell if its near the throttle body like on the 2012 and up or if its near the tank.

Thank you in Advance.

Oh and I I should say that I am only looking to replace the purge valve because it seems like the next logical part to replace. I do not have the money after just putting on my shorty headers to take it back into the shop so I am hoping to do this fix myself.

Have you driven the truck at all after replacing the gas cap ? It may need to complete a full cycle before the gas cap light goes away?

I have driven the truck about 15 miles since i replaced the gas cap which was just last night. I drive it home and then drove it about 10 miles to the gym this morning.
Maybe driving it more will prompt for the light to go out?

I did find a diagram of the evap canister and purge valve. My gut is telling me this is near the fuel tank not in the engine bay. Sigh.... I will drive on it for a while and hope the light goes out. that or when my code reader gets here see what code it is throwing.

It will take a long time for the light to go out for a evap fault, may take a few weeks, if that was the issue.

The ESIM is a more likely fault. It is attached to the canister, facing rear wards. It’s #3 on the diagram posted above. Make sure to change the o ring as well, if you change it.

The purge valve is located near the TIPM. You can always follow the vacuum hose on the intake manifold to the purge valve.

Thanks everyone. Good news. I took a long 20 mile drive and the light has gone out on its own. I guess it just needed to cycle test after the new gas cap. I also got my OBD code reader in the mail. I checked and there were not codes showing.

All is right with the world again.

The purge valve isn't located near the TIPM on the engines before the 2013... anyone know where it is? I can't find a diagram for it anywhere

This may be incorrect

Where is the purge valve on a 2012 Ram 1500?

The 2012 Dodge Ram 1500's purge valve should be mounted at the rear of the truck on the passenger side on the right shock tower. It will be housed in a bracket. Often referred to as a "solenoid", the purge valve is part of the Ram's EVAP and emissions system.

For several years, the purge valve was located half way under the Fuse Box, tight against the battery

It was under the tipm ... swapped it out but the EVAP P0456 keeps showing up. Will look for a crack in a hose when the weather is nicer. Like chasing a ghost.

It sometimes takes several ignition cycles after a fix, to shut the code off

That’s like the furthest spot possible from where it actually is lol.
On the 1500s the purge valve was by the fuse box for years, until the changed to the newer style around 2013, which is located on the passenger side of the intake manifold.

2012 and earlier the purge valve is located just rearward of the TIPM near the battery.
