Hey all, I’m new here
Looking to buy this 2012 1500 Laramie with a Hemi in it. Only 25k miles. Asking price is $29k
Any reason why I shouldn’t?

Thanks!

From the photos? Nothing obvious. There's nothing wrong with 2012's in particular. It's the last year before electric power steering and the improved traction control, and if it has the anti-spin differential pre-2013 models had oldschool style preloaded clutches. This is of little consequence for 99% of anyone. 2013+ models have five more horsepower that you'd never notice.

Only weird part is only putting 25k miles in ten years.. but stranger things have happened.

Yea the miles are kinda crazy low, but I feel the truck is clean enough to prove the odometer is correct.
I had my sights set on a 2016 with 50,000 ish miles but then this one popped up for $10k less.

It's a beautiful truck. The miles are low but it is priced for low miles, I'd check everything you can, looks great!

You're not ready for the awesomeness of a 2012 Ram?

Some guys will whine about the 6 speed transmission not being as bleeding edge cool as the 8 speed from slightly later model years. Until it's time to do maintenance, that is.

I've had my 2012 since new. The only complaint I've had are the headlights are subpar with the OEM bulbs. Higher output bulbs like Silver stars mostly took care of that.

Me thinks, if you drag your feet for too long, someone else will be driving that seriously pretty truck around... Good luck, hope this is a no issue 2012, and it's in your driveway ASAP...

If everything checks OK, I would pull the trigger on this clean machine don't wait to long, with the value of used trucks still are and will be probably the rest of this year.

Run the VIN first make sure that all checks out. The 12 really is the best year IMO. Gas mileage won’t be awesome, but compare it to other models of the same year. Mine gets at best 20 mpg hwy. Its a truck. My 12 is about to roll 143k and is still running as it did over 100k ago. Just maintain it. Check those idling hours as well. I think it’s like 25% vs mileage just due to the Hemi tick. I had to idle a bit tonight and I just lightly pressed on the gas for a bit. It’s cold here in Texas. Also make sure you run a good oil and filter. It will vary from truck to truck. Mine likes Castrol edge 5w20 and a puralator boss filter.

Checking the VIN should also tell you if the Ram was made for use in Canada
If it is a Canadian Ram the instrument panel will be backwards, from what is normal in the USA.
Also you won't have the Cell phone apps, if it is a made for Canada Ram

If you don't need the APPS, it will be fine

I would pull the trigger, especially if the owner is an older Man, they take care of their vehicles for the most part and that color looks pretty damn sweet !.... I would !

Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone!
I went and test drove it again and rolled around under it awhile and didn’t see anything of note besides a bit of crust to the frame welds. My first action will be to get it undercoated to prevent anything further of rust. There is zero rust on any painted panels or rockers, no chips anywhere or dings. It’s very very clean.
Carfax checks out with each oil change listed, 2 owner, no accidents.
Only 800 engine hours to the 25k miles. No hemi Tick!
I scheduled an appointment Monday to buy it pending approval so long as that goes through itl be mine! I’m very excited to own a hemi! I’ve had a 5.9 and a 6.7 3500 as work trucks and always loved dodge. Currently drive a Subaru Legacy gt wagon personally, so I’m really looking forward to the practical usage of a truck again!

just an off topic question....here in the great white canadian north the dealers absolutely refuse to divulge warranty history. Only option they say is to go back to the original selling dealer which in my experience is not successful. Any hints at how to overcome this and get the warranty history. As far as the original poster the vehicle sounds too good to be true.....

Sounds like all the advice is good. Buy it if you like it.

My 2015 Hemi, only has 28k on her.

Just throwing this out there. That low mileage with two previous owners might reveal a hiccup. Might be better researching the previous owners through the DMV and asking them directly

Same year and looks like the same color (Tequila Sunrise) as mine. Same mileage, (25K, and I'm the original owner) too. Mine is a 2500 Cummins 4WD Laramie long bed, fully loaded, and never driven in the winter. Carvana only offered me 23K for it. Now I know I got low-balled. Wasn't really planning to sell it, anyway. Just got the offer out of curiosity, since all the hype about the spike in used car prices. Beyond this I don't know the market, but maybe some negotiation might be in order? Good luck!

Yes, please do not buy it! I have a 2012 at the Dealership now having a new engine put in at $8500 that had the Famous Hemi Tick. Unless you want heartache and alot this money go ahead but im begging you Dont Do It!

very nice looking tk. I don't see many that color. Any used vehicle can have issues. Be prepared for a couple (hopefully small) issues. If any come up, just get them taken care of asap. Fortunately 2012's seem to be pretty rock-solid. Otherwise looks super-clean.

I sure hope OP keeps us up to date. When new folks make an account to ask one question, then disappear, it's kind of sad to see.
