Hey y'all. 2022 camping season will be here before we know it.

Do y'all think it'll be more of the same in terms of crowds and such? Thoughts?

I usually dewinterize and clean up in April...a few months off now..but will come quick as it always does.
Any trips planned yet? New truck or trailer purchases planned?

Have a good Saturday y'all.

Yup we are planning our trips, not all involve the big online reservation systems. Those that do, we are waiting for opening day to schedule.

I think everyone needs to plan a lot farther in advance than pre covid still. That is for the best spots at campgrounds. This is especially for those who have kids and need to plan around school schedules, those weeks off are going to book up pretty quick.

Have one trip reserved so far. I am still fighting to get the trailer fixed after an accident. Repair shop is taking forever. I really Hope its fixed before my reservation!

I’ve heard basically all shops are operating at max capacity and taking forever, like months to even schedule something.

And parts availability is killing everything. Had a fender bender in October and couldn't get the parts until end of January, if I'm lucky. And that's on my 2011 mustang. Newer parts are even harder to find.

No definitive plans yet. Still to early to book but we are going to plan a group trip in July or August. Carlisle is on my list again. I'd like to make it to ACN (Chrysler) show but on my current work schedule I already have off for the ATN (trucks) show.

We open the trailer up in April too. I can't wait! The CG we usually stay at is pretty easy to get spots at unless it's a holiday weekend. It's close to nothing so that makes it nice. The CG's down by the Jersey shore are another animal all together. That's why we avoid the area. We've been trying to get to Lancaster for the past couple of years but haven't made it yet. Maybe this year.

Well. I usually reserve 3 trips. Because they book up fast. Well. They booked up even faster.

So. That has pushed us (thankfully) to go to the forest more.

I am about over campgrounds as they have went to more full hook ups and more dog sites. This is great. I am not saying it isn't. They unfortunately took a rather inexpensive hobby and made it more expensive. The particular campground did this to some great non electric sites that you could book on a whim. Now they are already booked months in advance. And...i love dogs. But I dislike about 90% of dog owners. I just get agitated when they think everyone loves dogs and they can do no wrong. End rant

This led us to decide on 2 cool projects. We are going to build out our 03 2500 to be a dedicated truck camper. I got most all the materials. Just got to get time. This will be an easy project.

The other is we are going to build a custom off grid trailer/camper/kayak/bike hauler. It will be a bit more of a project...as I hope to make it super slick with many cool storage and sleeping options with the ability to haul 4 kayaks and bikes.

And of course we have our travel trailer and tent to bid us over til the projects are done.20210606_124730.jpg20210508_112533.jpg20210522_101509_HDR.jpg

I was just checking out the two main places we go to and their rates have gone up. One place by $10 a night and the other $5 a night. Old Cedar CG is the one that went up $5, still offers a 10% military discount, which is nice. But you're right, camping used to be more affordable.

Think about it, everything is going up. I wonder what hotel rooms cost now? I'll still stick with my trailer.

If my wife wasn't so spoiled with full hookups, those sites you find are beautiful. I'd love to try them. We would have to change a few things to boondock. I have a generator but we'd also have to change our mindset. Full hook up camping, water and dumping tanks, isn't an issue. Where you stay we'd have to be mindful of those things.

Boondocking is great but it is a different mindset and style of camping for sure.

We’re full timers and in Florida until May. Currently at an over 55 place that is great, just a bit expensive. Trying to get back into Patrick AFB near Melbourne on the Atlantic Coast but it’s been full since October and they don’t take reservations. Beautiful spot though and only $25/night.
Did a 7,000+ mile trip last summer and doing it again in May. We hit a lot of wonderful places last year but didn’t get to see everything we wanted…waited too long to make reservations. Wherever you go, be safe and appreciate this glorious country we have. Rocky times now but it’s going to get better!

I know its not adventurous and it's the same place but we have our camper parked at the same campground it was last year. After reading last year and so far this year I'm somewhat glad we have a permanent site. We went almost every weekend last year and most weekends out of the 140 or so permanent sites only 10-20 campers would be there on a given weekend. Holiday weekends obviously there would be more. I'm not saying it's the best scenario but it works for my family.

On a side note I feel really bad for anyone buying a new camper right now. We bought ours new for $23-24k (2021 forest river salem 29vbud) I'd have to look. Same dealership has the 2022 model same everything for $36 and 39k right now.

We're always tempted to get a seasonal but I work two weekends every month and we only camp one weekend a month. It's much cheaper for us to do it this way. The CG I mentioned earlier, seasonal sites costs $2834 for the site and $1150 for 30amp electric. We'd never camp enough to make it worth it.

State, federal, county, and private. Make them as early as possible. Own an RV park. and most holidays are filled already, and many more for regular weekends

Yeah, I'm feeling the cost also gents. It's one of the reasons I've held onto my Layton so long. I just don't know how many more years were going to do it.

Maybe, if I live to retirement age, but the cost of new rigs (and everything else) is just ridiculous right now...so I've been holding off...plus the crowds at all the SPs in my area...pretty much open to close...is just nuts. But well see. We still enjoy it...just not quite as much as before

Used camper values are also crazy. In any normal year my camper would have been totaled and I'd be able to cash out and get another. They're paying more to fix it after an accident then I paid for it in 2019 and say it still wasnt close to a total.

The wife and I are full time RV'ers and in some places it is hard to find any open spots 6-8 months out. I think 2022 is going to be the same or worse as the big retailers, i.e Camping World, are investing a ton of money on the industry. This means they will be advertising and looking for the new buyers out there, flooding the market, and campgrounds, with new people. We are already booking and mapping out our places through the end of the year.

I camp with a group of friends. We booked 8 reservations last summer for this summer. Even the State parks were filling fast. It's going to be difficult finding sites if you didn't already book.

Living in SC we don't winterize. We camp :) camped in Thanksgiving and Christmas. We stick to State Parks and COE mostly. Hate commercial campgrounds. We can get a site usually a month or two away

Have fun!
