Well, I've had two incidents with my new truck. So now I just don't care. Truck will be repaired next week. And I'll just wash and wax it like I have all my other trucks.

Sorry for your problems. Once you have a good foundation on the paint the maintenance and upkeep are a lot simpler and faster--relatively speaking, although some colors are more "challenging" I have to admit. There are a few synthetic waxes that will last a lot longer than a typical carnauba wax which usually only lasts for a matter of weeks. Collinite 845 is an example, it will last for almost 6 months.

I talked to my body shop repairing my truck. They offer a 5 year coating on my truck for $400. I am planning on having wife's van and my truck done. Had this on my wifes Mustang and it was great. Paid $1200 from Ford. I need to let my true paint repairs cure for 2 months before coating

Once I get organized, how much time should it take to detail my truck?

My washing every 2-3 weeks now, using a wash and wax product, takes me about an hour to wash using a soft microfiber mitt and two 5 gallon buckets ( one water only for this nse the other has soap and water). I over rinse so the soap doesn't dry on the truck. I also wash in the shade on a cool surface.

Inside I vacuum and clean the windows. The RAM mats I usually brush and vacuum. I do not like slick mats.

I have the chrome appearance package on the bumpers and wheels. I found Maguire Wheel Magic for chrome wheels works well.

I do my truck and my wife's 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan which is black.

How long should it take me to detail the outside of my truck, which I assume is washing, then coating with some majic elixir and buffing by hand.

What chemicals should be used in the two stages?

Basically a detail newby as my car washing knowledge hasn't evolved much from the 1990s, or maybe the 80s.
I spend 4 hrs on my black Laramie but I do a professional job.

The coating is not where you get your gloss from. The paint correction and enhancement is where the shine comes from. The coating protects the shine you created with the polisher. Be careful with a $400 coating, they probably don’t even touch the paint with a polisher.

Do you remember what this coating is called by chance?

The label says "Majestic Solutions Shield Premium Coating Protected"
That is not even a true h9 ceramic coating ... don't even bother with that company seriously. They reached out to me a while back and I tried their Shield X Carbon coating and it was garbage ...

Find a good mobile detailer in your area and ask them what ceramic coatings do they use ... no Graphene coating is proven to last 5-7 years let alone 10 years like some of these new "UP n Coming" graphene companies are claiming to provide ..

There are several "PROVEN" ceramic coatings you can get from amazon that work and you can apply them yourself if you want ...

Avalon King Armor Shield IX
CQUARTS UK
Gtechniq
Crystal Serum Light - Gtechniq
Legend - Renny Doyle
Inspiration - Renny Doyle
Sonax

These are just some of the ones "I" have used in the past or still use for my customers, I will never use a "Graphene" based or one that has graphene in it ...

Seriously, just grab yourself a good polisher, take a weekend and have some fun with the least aggressive polishing/buffing compound you can find .... do the work on the lowest setting and let the polisher do the job for you .... yes it is time consuming, but you will no that you did it and you did it right ... you can't mess this up .. then just apply the ceramic coating which is what takes the least amount of time, 30 minutes tops if you do one coat ....

The Avalon King Armor shield is a very good product and the one I am currently using the most ... you can add 2 coats with just one bottle of it on a car or truck and it will last a guaranteed 2-3 years and up to 5 years if you wash it on a regular basis ... I wash my truck every 3 days or as soon as I see grime on it, I just spray it down with the pressure washer to remove all the grime I can with just water, then I foam it up, let it sit for about 3 minutes if not under the hot sun, very lightly run my mitt starting from one end to the other in a straight line no wax on wax off motions and with the least amount of pressure on it ... then either dry it with a towel if you don't have spotless water like me or let it sit and dry

I was curious for future reference. Thanks for the info. When I bought my truck used back in September it came with a really glossy wax finish (the truck is a 2016). No clue what was the dealer used but I can clearly see myself in the reflection. What would you recommend as a spray on detailer type product to help maintain? I currently use Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Detailer.

I use Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic spray ... I wouldn't use a quick detailer as you risk introducing swirlmarks if you are wiping off dust or small patches of dirt ...

The Hybrid Ceramic spray in the blue bottle helps to keep grime from sticking to your paint very well, quick detailers honestly are the worst thing you can use on your paint "IF" you want to keep micro scratches, swirl marks and even holograms from your vehicles finish ....

You need the junkman on YouTube. No bs. He really tells it like it is and doesn't try to sell anyone's product.

Easy to watch as well. Start from the beginning very informative. He's changed some of his products assuming due to different sponsorships over the years. He's not a pitchman though but knows his stuff. Very popular on the Viper and Vette forums detailing pages.
