My 2008 ram 4.7 6spd has “only” 398 k miles, and last week I noticed the dipstick was about 1” higher than full, with a smell that resembled the gas/oil mix used in weed eaters. Had about 4500 miles since last oil change, so went ahead and changed oil again. Now about 500 miles later, oil level is barely over full (couple mm) but has again taken on that gassy smell.

Only thing I can deduce is fuel is getting into the crankcase, but how is the mystery. Truck still runs perfectly and exhaust smells normal most of the time, but have noticed it smells pretty rich on cold starts as of late.

Is there anything that could be causing this other than leaky injectors? The injectors are original and I have no problem replacing them with new, but don’t want to spend $500 on injectors unless I’m fairly certain that will solve the issue.

Injector is hanging up on. Diluting your motor oil with gasoline. This will destroy your bearings if you use it like it is . You should not drive it anymore until you correct this serious issue.

It’s just fuel dilution…true not good for bearings but more frequent oil changes with quality synthetic that can handle some fuel dilution will keep bearings safe. But yes do want to fix the issue sooner than later.

What do you mean by “injectors hanging up on”?

Is there a cold start fuel regulator of sorts or a fuel pressure regulator that can be causing the issue? Is it possible for injectors to bleed fuel into cylinders after shutoff?

As mentioned truck runs 100% perfect all the time

The fuel is entering the crankcase quicker than I thought, so taking your advice and parking the truck to order new injectors.

For those that have replaced injectors, are there any other parts that should be replaced at the same time? Ordering new o-rings as well bc I don’t think they’re included with the injectors. Anything else recommended?
