If I am reading the comment correctly I think they're talking about the same thing I dislike about ALL modern trucks, which is the extended cab trucks with the small "suicide" door. Which I imagine was stopped for collision standards. But the Quad Cab rear door is too small in my opinion for the size of car seats these days. If they still made the suicide style door I wouldn't need a crew cab to fit my kids. The back seat was still smaller, but the door opening is the issue, at least for me.
I just don’t understand what the big deal is, what’s so wrong with having the extra cab space in a crew cab? I guess I just rely on ole Burt Gummer’s logic too much in Tremors; If you need it and don’t have it, you sing a whole different tune.

Even if you just absolutely had to have that longer bed, you can still get that with a crew cab.

That’s weird, I don’t know why they would only get lukewarm when actives by the remote start and only get comfortably hot after manually turning them on.

Yeah man I know. So it's been REALLY cold these past few days -25c / -13f and it was barely putting any heat. Weird. My wife's seat seems fine. I'll claim it under warranty, or try to anyway! :D

I have never been a fan of 4 door anything. Never. They were a necessary evil, when my kid was small but now that he's moved out and has a son of his own and it's just me and the wife I DON'T NEED IT. why do the carmakers basically do all they can to force everyone to buy a vehicle in that configuration, simply because that's all they wanna make.
I still have a 78 Plymouth Fury 2 door hardtop, that I drive in the nice weather. and an 80 Plymouth Volare project car in the garage.

Id rather have a "suicide door" "4 door" because they don't look like a 4 door. also most trucks with 4 doors, have uselessly short beds. I don't want to "have to" be bound to hauling a trailer every time I need a truck to do a truck-ly job. I mean sometimes its unavoidable... but why haul a trailer just for a push mower or a snow blower? usually I haul my rider mower in the bed too.

Something that bugs me, and I never understood how/why they could call any 4 door anything a "Sport" version.

on another note, my '12 is by far the newest Dodge I have had. But I have never had anything else besides a Dodge, since I started driving in '83.

That's all I've ever owned since '76 is Mopars and everyone of them were 2 doors. That's probably the reason I now drive RCSB pickups now because they quit making 2 doors up until the Challenger. I bought a '10 Challenger which was a 2 door and I loved it. I will buy my wife a 4 door cause she is ok with them. I have to say the new Chargers are the best looking 4 doors that was ever made though.

Again, that’s all fine and dandy but why does it sound as though you just dont like that these four-door, short, short bed half-ton trucks are made? Keep complaining about it all ya want but just as I told you before, if you just absolutely want a regular cab truck with a “manly” 8 foot bed, you can get one in a 3/4-ton truck which is better suited for “truck-ly” jobs.

But you know, c’mon man, not everybody needs a truck like they were in the old days…lol. And you dont need a trailer to haul a push-mower or a snowblower but at this point it sounds like you‘re just being way too overly facetious for whatever reason.

As far as the Sport versions, crew cab or quad cab and even regular cab, what’s so “Sport” anyway when its just painted bumpers, painted grilles and painted everything else?

Had a 1968 4 door thunderbird suicide door. Nicest 4 door I ever owned and was a head turner.

I would never want anything on my ram to be associated with gm anything.
You mean like the ecodiesel that was built for european caddies?... personally, if I had a choice, I think id prefer them over Fiats quality control issues. But then Ive recently been told they merges with the french company Peugeot ... I guess I cant play anymore Eddie Rabbit songs while driving it.

Single cab trucks just look weird to me...especially those with long beds. Just looks out of proportion. They look like utility work vehicles, not daily drivers to me. I'll admit I bought my truck 100% because of how it looks. I don't do many truck-y things with it. I just think it's a cool looking vehicle with tons of interior space.

That’s pretty much how I feel as well but unlike this dude, I’m not gonna go off on regular cab long bed trucks just because I don’t like them.

Or well, it’s not that I don’t like them, I just don’t prefer them because I don’t need that long of a bed and I like having the extra cab space.

Being as how growing up, most trucks were single cab, and any time I saw a "3+3" square body Chevy it looked weird, I think all these 4 door trucks are what looks out of proportion. Especially with such short beds!
And what was the original purpose of a truck? Not as a glorified car, but they were created as work vehicles from the start. I didn't mind the whole "club cab" thing, and wish that dodge still made such a thing. But not with 4 doors!!
I'm not picking on anyone's truck here per say/ I don't know any of you. But the whole shift to 4 door everything just does not seem right. Not any of the members here's fault that happened.
If 4 doors work for you? hey great.
And my comments about 4 door vehicles go beyond dodge trucks. Back in the 80s Nissan/Datsun started that crap with (I think it was? ) The Maxima the "4DSC" labels on the back door glass.... 4 door sports car. No way. Many jeep Cherokee XJs with more doors were "sport" models as well. And other makes and models.
Growing up 4 doors were far from "sporty".
And if you guys haven't figured it out yet I am quite old school. When you bought a 4 door version of your 2 door whatever as a parts donor.

There’s nothing wrong with being old school but if you want a real definitive answer to why all these trucks- especially the half-tons are like they are today is because that’s what sells. The Ram 1500 along with other brands has been more domesticated to the point that they’re just glorified full-size SUVs with truck beds if you really wanna know. That’s what the majority of the consumer market wants. They want luxury, they want that big crew cab to fit all their friends, family and kids, they want it to ride good for long trips, get groceries, take the kids to school and soccer practice but hey, doing that in a Tahoe gets boring. People like trucks. That’s pretty much why I said, I don’t know why this bothers you for whatever reason but at least they still make the truck trucks in the heavy duty class.

Bingo it's more about eye appeal than function and arguably workability.

Yeah but I kinda sense a bit of it animosity, though. If you want a work truck, what’s wrong with it being at least a 3/4-ton? I’m not saying you in general feel this way as this goes out to everyone but I guess I just don’t understand why people don’t like the domestication of half-tons when there is a much better alternative for people who work their trucks. The 2500’s are built better and stronger. They got solid front axles. Better drive-trains. My 2018 Limited had been the go-to for long trips even over my girlfriend’s late model Civic. Mine is far more comfortable, has a bigger back seat, better seats, easier to get in and out of and just despite her gas mileage being twice what mine is, we’d all far more prefer to take my truck on long trips over her car and to top it all off, even though my bed might be smallest of the three, I still got far more stowage room over the average trunk; and it’s waterproof with that solid fiberglass tonneau cover for not only luggage but a cooler and whatever **** you may end up dragging home with you. Lol.

No I'm with ya. My previous truck (F-150) my buddy called it a car. Had heated seats, sunroof, all the stuff I really didn't want but when buying used it's sometimes hard to be picky but I admit was nice to drive. I sure miss the ride lol. Bed covers are awesome! I'll be ordering one soon for my Ram. 2500's are stronger and hopefully last longer which is why I went to one. Hope mine lasts me a long time.

Bottom line, if you want or need a work truck buy a work truck. Trucks today are multipurpose. I like having something I can fit my family into and be able to move larger everyday stuff and tow my trailer with my family. This is what people want. Nothing wrong with it. Don't like today's trucks, don't buy one. Problem solved.

Yep. There’s still plenty of old trucks out there that fit that old school bill of yesterday. You just gotta find them and give ‘em a little bit of love.

I have an 85 D150 in the garage at the moment I'm redoing. I plan to drive in nice weather once I'm done. Even this one I want to keep out of the worst of the slop and salt. I have a 96 Dakota 4wd for my sacrificial lamb for crappy weather.
I stated above what "I" don't like about newer trucks in general (not only the Dodge ones) doesn't mean anyone else here has to have the same dislikes. So far I'm liking my "new to me" '12, but haven't yet made the 1st payment, have not yet put 500 miles on it, though the abundance of electronics as there are more electronics on this truck vs any I have had before, kinda scares me.

One thing that applies to my particular truck and every other vehicle made in the last 25 years or so is the bastardization as in the total and complete change over to metric everything.
At least all the power train stuff on every vehicle I have owned prior to this one, has been all SAE fasteners..... Which is what I grew up with. Except for fasteners related to the AC compressor and lines.
At work I deal with all metric crap, and I don't care for it. Just keeps me tied endlessly and hopelessly to the snap on truck. Yet I have lots of wrenches and sockets that I spent good money on that now collect dust because they are SAE which is what (used) to be "standard".

As much as I complain about the MDS and other little things that bother me about my truck, the more I read about stuff on the 5th gen Ram forum, the more I appreciate my truck!!!
Every single time I use the remote start, I know it'll be warm for me in the winter months. The heated seat works flawlessly, the heated steering wheel works flawlessly, as do the side view mirrors, and the defroster. Like I said earlier, there are things that bother me about it, but it's not all bad stuff that I write about my truck.
