Hey folks,

Wanted to post some thoughts on a product I bought and installed on my '04 ST 4.7L 5 speed long bed. I drive this truck about once per week, it has only 37,001 miles, for that reason I wasn't looking for the best product out there but I did want something that would improve brightness at night and in rain conditions especially. I restored the OEM lights a few months back using a Sylvania kit which usually does wonders but these were beyond restoring so I decided to replace.

I wanted something affordable that looked good along with some LEDs that wouldn't blind others in traffic. After posting in a different thread I arrived at these at the recommendation of a few very helpful members here. So, if you're looking for an affordable lens/LED setup, look no further, I think I found it.

Note, I haven't driven it in night yet so I'll post updates in the next few weeks. This post is just initial impressions on the quality of the products and ease of install.

Here are the products I got:
HEADLIGHTS $102, link below:

These look really great with the black housing. Matches my truck's black accents well without being too blingy. Fit is perfect. I was worried, I've bought many aftermarket headlights over the years and they often don't fit well.....I compared a new one installed to the old OEM, it fits perfectly. Some folks on Amazon reviews complained that these don't fit right. I suspect they didn't remove the female grommet on the inner area that helps secure the light. The light has a new one so you have to pop the old one out. It's snug and fits 100% correct. Good quality. We'll see how the adjustments work once I drive at night and use them. Others on Amazon complained that the turn signal receptacle doesn't interface with the bulb without modification but the ones I bought fit perfectly. Installed both sides in 15 minutes. I also like these because the rubber trim piece is longer than on the OEM light so it seals better when the hood closes, you just have to get a push fastener to hold it in, interestingly there are x3 OEM holes per side for this though the OEM light didn't use them, it only uses one hole.

Also of note the headlights come with halogen bulbs, which was nice, but I am using LEDs. If anyone reading this needs some new halogen bulbs holler at me I'll mail them to you for the cost of shipping.

See pics below.

LEDs $42, link below:

I'll post more after some driving. These fit perfectly and they look great. I've always had good luck with LED performance, what a difference. I like how these are Hi/Lo all in one bulb. More impressions to come.

See pics below.

Update, drove with these in the dark yesterday. The light pattern is horrible and blotchy all over the road. I suspect it's the headlight casing itself. The LEDs trigger a "headlamp out" light any time you flip from low to high beam as it takes a few seconds for it to turn on. This also means if you flip to high beams you're in the dark for 3-4 seconds.

I'll be returning the LEDs and installing the halogen bulbs. I suspect the light output at that time will still be better than what I had before with the old yellowing headlight casings.

I suspect the LEDs in the OEM casings would be great but mine are beyond restoring so I'm cutting my losses, plus the issue of cutting out.

In the end these are great looking and great fitting headlights, but the pattern is bad, but I can still see enough. You get what you pay for.

I've seen similar lights that replace OEM for prices up to $250. I was ready to get this style until I read this. Im wondering if the LEDs were clocked correctly.

Thanks for the update, too bad the LEDs didn't work out for you. Mine have been in a little over 2 years now and you're right about the installation and removing those female clips before installing. The smokey housings fit like OEM. The first set of LED bulbs I tried did the exact same thing yours did, but I got them on auction for $7. so I wasn't surprised. They were 3 emitter bulbs touted to be the way to go haha. Even clocking them properly did no good. The second set I got only had 2 emitters (1 each side of filament) and were a breeze to clock and worked like I was hoping. I updated the housings because I went to the blackout look on all exterior lights. Now my entire truck is LED, inside and out. Every now and then I'll still get the light out warning, but then it's gone the next time I fire her up. Sometimes I think it's just the trucks personality haha.
