Down one quart of oil, then put a quart in it, now it's a quart too full

TRUCK might get spoiled and demand more frequent oil changes, lets go back to the 70's, every 3,000 miles, yeah yeah, with the lil remind me to get oil changed sticker in the upper left hand top of windshield (anybody remember those silly stickers) !!!
They still use them up here. My truck and 2020 Jeep both have them, 2 different dealers. :Whoa:.:waytogo:

I normally have Dealer do oil and tire rotation. DO every 5,000 more or less. Works for me. I could buy all the "stuff" and do, but sure a lot easier to let a shop do then drive up on ramps and play the oil filter game, hee hee. Guess my age is showing.

An employee of mine put 7 qts on top of the 7 that was already in the truck because he thought it was drained already, drove it for the entire summer and surprisingly nothing happened, doh'
I don't know that I actually believe this. There would seem to be no where an extra 7 quarts of oil can fit into a Hemi. I would have to see a 14 quart drain out to buy into this one.:shake:
;)

He discovered the cure for the hemi tick. Keep the lifters covered in oil.

Your vehicles are using oil BECAUSE you have it over filled. Too much oil causes quite a number of different issues, including but not limited to high pressure, poor lube, oil leaks and ring bypass. Go back to filling to the right level and your oil consumption issue will go away. Check your oil more often and fill as required. A half quart too little is better than too much.
In the good old days, (1950 1960) it was not uncommon for a new engine to use oil if it was filled to specification. In many cases we just left one quart out when refilling and the problem went away. Over full is not good.

Well, I've seen this happen to a Chevy Cavalier. A person at a quick oil change center installed 5 quarts of oil thinking the previous oil changer had drained it. The car would not go over 50 MPH, blew the front crankshaft seal and pumped the air cleaner housing full of oil.

Okay, but it certainly didn't run just fine as the previous comment said with 7 extra quarts.

I have a sticker on my windshield now from my last (2021) oil change!

I also remember in the 80's being tought about the internal combustion engine - the 'oil level' can go UP because of water vapor condensing in the crankcase/ gasoline seepage past the piston rings, etc.

I had a '92 Suburban. I was going on a camping trip and needed a quick oil change. Went to Valvoline instant Oil Change. They tried charging me more because they claimed it used 6 quarts of oil. I changed my own oil several times, so I told them it was 5; the 3/4 ton uses 6. So I didn't get charged. Went home hooked up and drove off with the trailer. About 3/4 the way there the truck started smoking bad. I pulled over. Oil was blowing through the exhaust and covered the front and side of the camper. I checked the oil and sure enough it was at least 1 quart over. I limped to the campground and waited for it to cool down. Then I had to dump a gallon of milk, cut the top off, and remove the overtightened oil plug. So my first day camping was draining oil and cleaning up oil on my newly waxed camper. VIOC refused to do anything. They offered a few coupons for free oil changed (which I told them where they can stick those.) Numerous calls to corporate didn't help. I'd say the truck lost power after that. Might have been some engine damage or it might have damaged the exhaust. I ended up trading the truck in months later. I went back to changing my own oil.

I have no clue how I managed to mess this up. I dipped the dipstick twice, and it was down a quart both times, a few days ago. I figured I was burning oil or something so I put another quart in it.

Now this morning it is a quart too full, so I need to figure out how to drain one quart. Im 1500 miles away from it needing to be changed, but I may go 'ahead and get it changed anyway since I screwed it up.
Just cut an inch of the dipstick

You may want to get one of those Fumoto oil drain valves. It simply replaces the oil pan plug then you just open and close the valve. The way it closes and locks makes it worry free. It comes with a gasket and you probably won’t need a drain tube. My wife has one on her car and it makes an oil change so easy.

If youre 1500 miles off, just change it. I also recommend a fumoto oil drain valve. It reduces driveway mess and you can just drop the old oil right into an old oil jug vs having to funnel it in from a drain pan.

I got a Valvomax on mine. Makes oil changes so much easier (altho changing the oil filter on the 5.7 is still oh so fun!)
