Slightly bigger tires, gas guzzling?

I've been searching for this answer to such a drop in mpg for a while so if it's been answered, my apologies.

My truck came with 275/55/20s Nexion and I just put on 275/60/20 Cooper Dicoverer HT all season... Right, so I know I need to alfaobd this thing as I'm 2mph or so off... My issue is that my mpg dropped by almost 5. Driving at 68 on the dash (70 on waze app) and I'm getting 15/16. This seems extremely excessive.

I'm not a car guy outside of detailing and paint correction, I'm still new to that as well, so I don't know if my truck is just lying to me... But I'm using a lot more gas on my commute than normal. Any word on this? My alignment is as close to perfect as I've ever seen and I've got a cold 38psi all the way around in Florida weather. Any help would be appreciated.

Those 2 tires are almost the same in size ... the 275/55R20 is 31.9 and the 275/60/20 is 32.99 ... I wouldn't even worry about changing tire size for that

You might be looking at a difference because of tire weight maybe

I would agree if it were like 2mpg... But this is 5-6 over two tanks. I just don't get it.

I'm not concerned about the mpg, I'm just trying to see if truck is acting up.

Yeah the 5 could be weight and the difference in the tire size too, that little difference does add up on the average after a while though ... go to the dealership see if the can flash it for the new tire size ..wouldn't hurt .... or get alfaobd and play with it once you get it lol .... I mean I have been having fun with mine adding new stuff to my truck lol

Yeah I'm going to look into it tomorrow. I see a lot of excitement in here about them. Hopefully it's an easy fix. The 275/60 is what comes on a lot of these trucks stock. I bought my truck used about 3 months ago and the tires were from 2013 so I assume the dealership kept the originals. Truck only had 26k on it.

Thanks for the response, bro.

I find it impossible to believe that you lost 5 mpg by switching to that tire size. I could see 1 mpg and 2 mpg would be a stretch. If you are seriously getting 5 mpg less than something else is going on.

After I put on 35's, oh yes.... I did see a difference in mpg, which I did anticipate, but it was certainly there and that was a rather large jump in size.

As mentioned above, the size that you just went up is pretty negligible. Not knowing much about the tires you put on, I would ask are they the same compound? Not all tires are equal.

The biggest consumption on mpg I have found with my vehicles, comes from my right foot :waytogo:

There's almost a 10lbs. weight difference between the Nexen's and the Coopers. I don't think it's so much the size difference but the weight different that may be affecting your mileage.

I'm just going to have to have it programmed.

I should mention, I am basing this loss on what the truck is telling me. Thats probably important info I should've mentioned.
