Hey all, I'm looking for suggestions on a tool/method to clean the area by the hood hinges pictured below. Towels and similar don't get all the way into the space, at least not in my big hands, nor do they get into the small angles at the sides. I don't want to damage the paint with a stiff brush either. The gunk in there is mostly tree pollen and does not come loose easily.

Pressure washer

I'd rather not use the pressure washer under the hood or near any wiring.

Air compressor and then a nice rinse with water

Air won't budge this stuff, it's stuck on.

I use the wheel brush set, great for all the hard to reach areas.

The ones I have are too big, but I'll have to check those our.

Paint brush

I'm going to try one of the round paint brushes.

I've got some experience doing deep detailing and paint corrections. My opinion is to get yourself a solid APC/Degreaser (i use chemical guys green stuff) and detailing brushes.

Cover any parts like alternator that you don't want to get wet... Thick towels or tape down some trash bags.

Spray the APC (keep in mind you can dilute it with water 20:1 for most applications) and take your detail brush and agitate all that gunk. Spray generously as to not let it dry while you're working. Keep that brush going. Then spray everything down with a hose. Repeat if necessary, but try to spray mostly away from areas you covered.

That should do the trick.

40 grit sand paper. Lol

Use caution using degreasers as some are corrosive. There is also foam in that area that will trap the chemicals.

I use hot water with dawn dish soap.

Get both sizes of the Speedmaster brushes. Not cheap but have worked well for many years. Great on rims as well.

Simple green and a power washer. Been doing it that way for 30 years. No problems ever.

Dont be afraid to pressure wash your motor. It will be fine. F bomb is really good and strong. I know I said CG APC, but seriously this stuff is good. Get your self a good scrub bush, a lug nut brush, and a wash pad. If you really want to get nit picky like me, I would use on of these as well. I cant get enough of them when cleaning door jams and hard to reach areas.

Ditto. I have been powerwashing under the hood of my vehicles for 25 years. Never once had an issue. And that particular spot isnt even near the motor so to speak…could powerwash the hell out of that area and not even hardly get the engine bay damp.
