Thinking of adding Limited slip to my 2014 3.55 rear end. Debating whether to get OEM Anti-slip or new Trutrac. Both from Moes. OEM seems to be a direct install. What about Trutrac? Direct replacement of open diff carrier or anything else needed? Also, your opinion which one is better for occasional off-road, snow areas etc and why. Thanks in advance.

TruTrac now sells a model for the ZF rear axle in these trucks, before it took some other parts. It's definitely a better option over the oem if your headed off road.
Coming from an open differential you may notice the on road manners of the TruTrac to be interesting in slick conditions. You'll find with both wheels spinning that your more likely to go sideways around turns.
Changing the rear differential and/or gears is not for the faint of heart, usually best to have an experienced shop do the install. If something is installed wrong things can self distruct fast.

For a stock truck or lowered the stock limited slip is wonderful as it’s not preloaded so it’s not trying to spin both wheels off the bat. I have the stock limited slip and running 35s with a few mild performance upgrades I feel like I can just power through the capabilities of the stock limited slip. If you are modified or lifted you’ll want to lean more towards the trutrac as it’s more heavy duty and no clutches to slip if you really start giving it power or torque. When I was stock the stock limited slip did great for off-roading and every day driving.

I swapped 355 to 456 and a tru-trac a few months ago, the traction is much improved, and the gear change has been very fun! I have the six speed. Yes it was direct ,had an off-road shop do the work.

I explored this scenario last year and cheapest quote I got was $1750, highest was $2400.
This for just changing the 3:55 open to factory LS, no gear ratio change (if you alter the back you have to do the front too)

In the end it wasn't worth it just to get a two tire burn out.

Sounds like I will be going with Trutrac then. Will do the work myself. Thanks to everyone for your comments!

Good choice
Two weeks ago I got stopped on the 10% grade going home with my 2wdr
To start on the hill I needed to turn off the traction control and set E brake to load LSD other than that no chance
Last truck no sweat LSD had preload and no traction control

Though I would prefer a helical LSD, I have yet to experience any difficulty in the factory clutch LSD
I have the same view on the LSD. In my mind I lean toward the gear type, but I cannot offer any complaints on my factory installed clutch type. It functions as it is supposed to.

When in a situation where I anticipate wheel spin from a standing start I will turn of T/C ( partially off actually ) and have never had to apply the parking brake to get things rolling.
I do have hill assist activated so maybe that acts like applying the parking brake.

BLD is still active when the traction control is switched off (basic partial off mode)

Update: having a local 4x4 shop installing it for me on Monday. $500 for labor, new bearings, seals, pinion bearing etc. Seems like a good price.

That does seem like a decent price. Please keep us posted on how you like it.

Just finished installing a TruTrac in my '19 Classic yesterday. Had an open diff before and man what a difference!
Bought mine from Jegs for $525, but the big challenge was finding carrier bearings as they are expensive and on backorder from Mopar. Parts stores had the wrong bearings even when their computer said otherwise. I ended up finding some Timken Bearing part numbers ($65w/races) and new ring gear bolts ($40) for the install.

Overall the best value maybe buying it and the install kit from Moe's for the sake of saving time. Moe's price on the install kit is the cheapest I have found so far.

I had TrueTrac in both F&R in the Jeep and it was FANTASTIC!

Using the brake to get a spinning wheel stopped. It would take only 1 or 2 clicks on the Jeeps E-Brake.

The Tru Trac is a healical and won't distribute torque if one tire is off the ground.

I like the OE clutch type, just needs more aggressive clutches and treated steels.
