The gas is much less expensive 30 miles down the road. When traveling, I plan my stops based on fuel costs and sometimes they get close to the limit. Lol
How much cheaper is the gas at the next stop? If you have the standard size tank, you are unlikely to buy more than 20 gallons at a time. If the price is 20 cents more at the 'expensive' station, it will cost you $4.00 more to fill up, and not have to worry about it. Skip the coffee, buy the gas, and get where you are going without stressing.

I have a 32 gallon and when traveling, it is usually 1800 miles one way. It adds up, esp. when towing.
Or when going out west, I try combine price with octane before the altitude/octane drop.

Not a fan of 85 octane when climbing mountains or coming back to lower elevation.
If getting fuel at high elevation, I go to mid grade to get 87 octane.

Also price can have significant price changes over state lines. I prefer to stay with top tier if possible.

I won't even turn left and go across any lanes to save a dime if there is a station on the right. I figure the $2.50 I might save (if it was empty)isn't worth chancing getting hit or worth the time coming back out and having to cross the lanes again turning left. LOL

You got me there! lol
That was hard for me as I never let my needle go past 1/2 a tank. I lived in California from 2014 - 2015 and I regularly paid $4.80+ for gas. When I moved back east in mid 2015 $3.50 a gallon gas prices didn't scare me anymore so ALL my vehicles get 91+ octane super unleaded.

The fuel in your tank cools the fuel pump, low fuel, hot pump, big problem!
West Tx I 10 middle of the night? Damn near ran out of gas, 15 mi Drive to empty. Pulling a RV trailer, sweating bullets, dogs in the car,
Lovely wife ******** and worried! Never Again. Ever been to Ludlow CA? Same crap plus 3 bucks more. Aint worth it. Get gas before 1/4 tank or SOONER, trust me! I know.

The only time I let mine get below 1/3 of a tank is when I've saved up fuel points to the point I can get a fill up at a ridiculous price and I'm just driving around close to home. Getting 29 gallons of mid-grade for 80 cents a gallon is just fun. I don't care about the money so much as the feeling I've traveled back in time briefly.

You should never run it out of gas. I always fill up when I hit quarter of a tank. You never know if there will be some sort of natural disaster or medical emergency that will jot afford you the opportunity to go to the gas station. We learned that lesson when we were stationed overseas, lol

I have been told that the gas in the tank keeps the submerged fuel pump cool and if you keep running below 1/4 tank it can eventually burn out the pump. At several hundred dollars for a pump I try keeping the level above half.

When I ordered my Rebel I specifically said need the "big" tank... haha 33 gallons is nice, unless your filling it up all at once.

I remember a different post where people where saying in order to save on fuel economy to not get the big tank... I think that's ridiculous, the difference is roughly 45lbs, **** the dog weighs more than that...

I don't even know if my low fuel light works. I got caught many many years ago in a traffic jam with low fuel and ended up running out. Lesson learned. Won't happen to me again. The minimum I will let mine go is a 1/4 tank before I search for a gas station right away. Never will understand running until low fuel light comes on, does our car have to tell us everything? I can promise you it WILL NOT save you one red penny running it till empty!
Ditto- quarter tank is my fill up indicator.

That reminds me of a guy that started working for us years ago and drove one of our trucks and ran out of gas in the first week. We are a local company and drive local so I took some gas to get it started and I ask him how did you run out of gas when you are supposed to fill up every night thinking I caught him not doing as he is supposed to and you've only driven about 150 miles. He said "I always just fill it up to a half tank because the extra weight makes it get less MPG". After my blank look of about 30 seconds and shaking my head for 10 more I told him to fill it up every night and let us worry about the extra $1 he may cost us this year. UNBELIEVABLE!

Had 20 miles to empty and travelling on the hwy, then started losing power.

Engine stayed at 3500 rpm, but truck just kept slowing.

The truck turns over, but just keeps cranking.

2021 1500 with 13k miles.

Hoping I am only out of gas??

Thoughts?
My 2019 had a 33 ga tank but setup for a 26 my wife would go crazy when the light came of I knew a had 150+ to go

Well, interesting comments. I don't run my HEMI low on fuel as that is not a good thing for the fuel pump inside the gas tank and it's more likely to pull trash up into the fuel filter.

I'm retired so filling up about twice a month at about half a tank works for me and I know about when my local refueling station has received a fuel delivery. That's also important as when the fuel truck is off-loading gas it stirs up the debris that has settled in the holding tanks.

Also, I keep my fuel tank full to lesson the possibility of condensation from forming on the inside of the fuel tank ... I reside in Louisiana where the humidity isn't your friend.

Well, a gallon of gas saved the day. Odd with that gallon it still showed 19 miles to empty. Guess I will need to fill up much sooner and not trust the fuel guage.
Are you the guy that was going from car to car in the parking lot with a gas can asking for gas money.?? ☺☺

FWIW, I worked with a feller who drove his truck running on gas fumes. I asked him why he didn't keep his fuel tank at least half full and his reply was: "I ain't got no time to be a pumping gas and serchen fer a gas station two times a week when I can just get it done one time".

Well, I guess to each their own.

If you keep cranking with no gas it will guarantee you burn up the fuel pump.
