Had a google through the forum and see lots of different MPG figures being given.

Looking to get a guide to see if mine is any good or could be better.

It’s a 4.7 2003, 194,000 on the clock.

Most trips I do are to work and back. Approximately 15 miles each way, few roundabouts, bit uphill bit downhill. All single carriage way, fairly rural roads.

Usually on the trip its about 15mpg.

Drops to about 12 doing town driving

High 17 low 18 on the motorway crusing at 65ish.

Those are the figures off the trip computer and in US mpg.

I’m reasonably happy with them. Makes me feel a lot better when i convert them to UK mpg too

Read some threads where peoples best is my worst and some peoples worst is my best.

If you can post up model, age, mileage and your MPG.

Thanks

'12 Ram 1500 R/T RCSB. 345 Hemi, CAI, 4.10 gear, 6 speed transmission. The best I can do is under 65 MPH on the highway is 18 MPG trying to get good MPG. I don't try to figure out any mileage in the city or elsewhere because my driving habits other than on a trip isn't worried about MPG.

Doesn't sound too far off. I had a 2007 with the 4.7 that I bought new. Severely underpowered so it had to work harder to do the same thing the hemi would do.

Given that it’s not quite running right it seems reasonable from what i have read.

I don’t drive like a lunatic but not particularly gentle with it.

If gas mileage is the goal, sell the truck, buy a Prius. :)At the price of gas in the U.K. I would at minimum have it running right up to spec if I needed to run a truck because if your mileage is in U.S. mpg then that is not very good mileage for a 4.7. If it is Imperial then it is even worse.

Actual MPG lower than computer.
Your MPG isn't great because of the time it takes to get to operating temp.

Great MPG isn’t a goal, i’m just curious. Wouldn’t have traded the 1.7d van for it other wise.

I work away Monday to Friday so don’t do many miles. Drive to work Sun / Mon, home again Fri / Sat.

As i’ve mentioned in other posts, it’s not quite running right and with the help of the forum and a good local mechanic i’m working through the potential issues.

Little bit trial and error, think the “cheap, quick” fixes have been done now and its onto more expensive time consuming jobs.

Waiting an answer in another post about the easiest way to check my timing.

This was my 2007 1500 4.7 with 3.92's. All hand calculated:

and these were after I started a new job with about 70% of my commute being on the highway:

I have more but you get the idea...

That my friend is superb.

I fully intend to brim the tank and work out my MPG manually over the space of several fills.

Also, presuming i get it all sorted and running right i have every intention of driving it the 320 miles (640 round trip) to Dorset Steam Fair this year.

I have a 2018 Ram 1500 and just last night I noticed that my MPGs have actually gone up since the rise in gas prices and I am driving it a lot more ... I have 37"s with 4.88 gears and I manually turn of MDS every time ... I do mostly city driving which is what trips me out right now, I usually average 11-13 in the city and right now im almost at 15 lol .... this past weekend I was up to 16.8 but didn't think of taking a picture ....

This last full tank I got the range read 385 miles which I hadn't seen since I had the OEM wheels/tires and the 3.21s ...

So I would say you are pretty good, not great but I wouldn't mind those SMILES PER GALLON

I had started doing this when I first got my truck and I just got lazy and didn't keep up with it ... I should probably start it up again this year ....

2004 Dodge 1500 SLT 5.7Hemi with 94500 miles. With upgrades....cold air intake, throttle body spacer and a tuner. On flat ground during summer getting 19 to 20 MPG at 70. Winter as all goes to crap at below freezing. My 2021 does about the same may be little better.

I have the 2006 Cummins 5.9L Laramie 2500. I get 16-18 MPG around town. On the highway it's 21-24 MPG. Just a cold air intake and a 4" exhaust pipe. I do have a canopy, and get this, the original mileage: 62,500! I bought in 2012 with 44,000 on it.

It's not all been a bed of roses, as I had quite a few problems that had to be ironed out. One in-particular being an intermittent one, that took 5.5 years to get rid of and it was very spendy to boot! I do love the sound of that diesel engine though, and so do my neighbors. Maybe I'll write as to what was the issue and cause sometme, if people want to know/show interest.

Oh and the "Crevice Dog" artwork was done by a friend, as that's my name on an online game known as Black Hawk Down.
