Well, now that I have a week off of work, I am thinking of saving a few hundred bucks and doing the spray on bed liner myself. Has anybody taken this on, and is it as aggravating as it seems? Or is it just worth the money to have somebody else do it?

I’ll be following, would like to do this also but fear if I mess it up it will be a nightmare to fix. I’ve seen a few post that say the prep work is very important, the application not that hard, but when I read something takes 30 minutes I’m still working on it 2 hours later. If you do it yourself, would you post what you did? Thank you & good luck!

I imagine the prep work is the worst part. I have watched a video or two and it looks tedious. I imagine the worst part would be sanding in the tight spots. I am like you though... If I mess something up, what is it going to take/cost to fix it...

It's not hard at all, the prep work takes a few hours but nothing crazy ... I had the right tools so it was a breeze, having a 60 gallon air tank allowed me to spray at a consistent pace but you can easily spray it with a 10 gallon tank too.

Here is the work in my build thread ... I used Raptor Bedliner and I fawken love it !!! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask

I was thinking about doing it myself as well. There's a rhino lining place in town here that does it for about 500 bucks. I'm pretty sure that's the route I'm gonna go come spring.
Nothing wrong with that, I just chose to save some money, have done it the past and knew I could do it myself .... but for $500 you can't go wrong if a shop is doing it ...

When I first got my truck last January, I was quoted $425 for mine (6.4" bed). If that is still the same price, I may go ahead and have them do it. I am trying to wait and get it for my 40th b-day this summer, but it is becoming harder not to want to do more stuff to my truck...

That is actually a good price no lie ... I would jump on it

Prep Prep Prep! I did a Jeep hood and that is way easier than a bed with all the ribs on it. YouTube makes it look so easy, but with my luck I just saved up for the cost of a spray in. The warranty was well worth it to me. I have seen great results and I have seen some that look like swiss cheese because of all the spots that lifted from someone that "prepped" like a ******.

If you do follow through, I wish you the best of luck.

The bed is actually very easy too ... you don't need to remove the paint at all, you only scuff it up so that the bedliner has something to grab onto ... Raptor bedliner recommends not going down to the metal and just hazing up the clear coat and that is what I did ... the few spots that I did go through the clear and base I used their acid etch primer to cover up the metal spots ....

Took me a few hours using a nylon brush on my dewalt polisher to scuff up the entire bed ...

I looked into doing ot myself but then found a place was $435 out the door with a lifetime warranty so I went that route instead.

@Mb7640 It does look B@D@$$ .... did they do the rail caps too ? I am going to do mine because they are starting to fade and look grey lol
Thank you no they did not do the rail caps I was debating if I should remove them but I decided to keep them on. I think it looks way better now then it did without it.

You get do the bedrails yourself with a can or two of raptor bedliner, just mask everything up, scuff them up and bam! that's what I am going to do to mine, I should of done them when I did my bumpers, grill, fender flares and bed but for some reason I forgot about them when I started masking everything up lol ... once I sprayed the bed and started removing the masking tape and plastic covers I realized I didn't do them lol ...

Do most people normally get the rails done, or leave the plastic cap on?

They leave them on, but I have seen people take them off cover up the holes and spray it and some spray the caps with the bedliner too which is what I am going to do first, if I don't like how they look I will remove them, cover up the holes and spray it

I have done my truck, it’s all about the prep work. That is the hardest part that takes the most time.
The prep work for me was pretty damn easy at least on the truck bed ... the chrome bumpers were a little more work but so far they are all holding up, even the bedliner on the grille and fender flares which are plastic
