Op’s initial inquiry was related to basically keeping our Rams clean, which is great and after 14 pages has sparked passion about it.

Im always open to learning more techniques and ideas.

Keep rocking guys :waytogo:

Wow! While directionally correct, there are several comments that are just hyperbole, or generally incorrect. If one sprayed 10 coats of base in a basecoat/clearcoat system you would have cracking paint and a very dull and non-robust finish, at a minimum. One coat systems, different story. Your typical cut & finish process (say with products similar to Meguiar's 105/205 2 step) removes around 5 microns of clearcoat. A typical "professional" wet sand with 2000 initially then finishing with 3000, and then a 2 step would remove around 12 microns total. Again, many variables exist here, but these are values for folks that "know what they are doing".

On a side note, many of the cars with peeling paint back in the 80's were a result of OEM's not understanding UV degradation to the e-coat layer without an UV "protective" layer in the primer or top coat. Blue, and other colors prone to UV absorption were the most problematic.

Not wanting to get into a p***ing contest, I'm not going to comment further on this thread. Most of my 35+ years in the automotive industry (majority in Paint Operations) makes me a bit OCD regarding these types of discussions. Getting back on topic, yes I am older, and also do my own detailing Lol. Take care.
So that is why those "lowriders" with 10-15 coats don't have cracking paint right? lol !!!!

You said you wouldn't comment on this thread any further a few pages back, yet you keep on doing your internet re-search and just come on here repeating what you read and what you "want" others to believe ...

Just like you I have been doing paint correction for a very long time lol , very easy to just remove 1 micron, 2 microns however many microns you want when doing paint corrections "PROFESSIONALLY" Keywords here are "MAY" or "CAN" remove up to 5 microns in one pass, that depends on the pads, type of compound used and how long you let it polish/buff for ...

Clear coat failure is also caused by the hoods and rooftops heating up and evaporating leaving behind water spots that etched so deep as a result of sitting out in the sun all day or the dew sitting on the hoods and the hot engines basically cooking that hood with all that water, contaminants and cheap detailing products ... but I am sure you don't believe that lol !!!

I am willing to bet that you are that one guy that tells everyone "yes I can remove all those scratches no problem" without explaining the risks of removing so much clear coat just to remove one scratch that the customer wants lol .... a "PROFESSIONAL" knows what he can and can't remove without compromising the integrity of the clear coat.

Go do some more research on the internet so you can come back and challenge me yet again ok?

I still have a 93 corolla that has no clear coat left but the basecoat is like metal lol ... My pops owned it for 7 years and he worked at an alloy place where they made ingots and shipped them to wheel companies and whoever else they sent their stuff too.... all the fallout from the foundry fell and that little corolla for 7 years and just ate up the clear coat within 2 years or less ...

When I wash it the paint still looks like it has clear coat but once it dries it goes back to it's old dull sell lol !!!

My old oxidized blue looked pretty good as long as it was wet. When I sold the car I advertised the color as oxidized blue and had a few laughs from buyers over that. It was a good looking car as long as it was on a rainy day

I just had someone leave a note on the windshield asking if I wanted to sell it ... the first thing they said was "because of the paint I think it's only worth $600" I was like "WTF ARE YOU SERIOUS" ...

I have only changed the clutch back in 2001, starter in 2003 and 2 batteries ... it might look old and the paint is trash but it runs like a champ! I told the guy he could have it for $4000 and never heard from hi again lol ... I am going to actually paint it myself sometime this spring before summer .. A/C works, heater works absolutely nothing wrong with it except the paint lol ...

Folks are actually adding ‘patina’ intentionally to different paint jobs to add character

CHEECH has one dang made up/built up looking ride. Looks tremendous. I just do not know how they get in without a ladder. My Dealer was trying to sell me a 2019 Bighorn with 6" Rough Country Kit. It was done real well, but I had to tell em, no TY. I drove the ride but had to JUMP up to get on the side step and jump out (not a PLF fanatic). Told em, I just cannot jump in/out of my ride. NOW if it had a 2" lift, I would have bought.

I can't find that specific truck with the rust paint job but this is another truck built by the same people I think that has a 14" lift kit

Gotta be SEMA builds.

I just wouldn’t need Amp stairs….. I’d need an Amp Ladder :waytogo:

im guessing @ 150-175k, art on wheels
Yeah most of them are SEMA builds but a few of these they actually drive them lol ...

I wouldn't mind a 2500 with a 12" lift for every day driving ... my old 78 K5 Blazer had a custom 14" lift kit with 44s .... fawken loved that truck and really regret selling it .....

Just wondering about all the older fellas like myself. I'm almost 52 and I love to keep my Ram looking sharp. I have found as time goes on I am not inclined to do the full wash, claybar, re-wash, dry, polish and then wax in one day. I tend to do the wash, clay bar and re-wash one day. Then put her in the garage and do the polish, buff, wax and buff the next. Anyone with me on this????
I will turn 77 in October and I just finished applying Torque ceramic coating to my 22 Laramie. Its makes that white pearl pop and was easy to apply. My truck never sits outside and gets contaminates on it, so all I had to do was make sure it was very clean. I would recommend the Torque, I think its a good product. Just my $0.02

After purchasing this truck I decided on trying a different ownership approach (I pay off my vehicles and keep them long term). Only premium microfiber towels, waterless washes when needed (3D Waterless), a spray "wax" (Griot's), and then quick upkeep detail spray usage (quite a few I've tried). That is all I've ever done to this '17 exterior. I might finally hit it this winter for the first time ever with an AOI like Klasse or something like that. Does it look as good as if I was doing more to it often (clay, polishes, glazes, sealants)? No. But it still looks better than when I pulled it off the dealer lot. And I've enjoyed spending less overall time but keeping the truck looking detailed more often with this method. Definitely to most people it looks like professional results. And I'm telling you all, that 303 Speed Detailer is the best damn thing going for a quick wipe down, $8 a bottle on Amazon here in the states.

If you just get a good coating Undrdog or a true Ceramic Coating. Not this wannabe stuff that they claim to be a true ceramic coating. It takes all of 30 minutes to do my truck and the same with the wifes jeep.
