U.S. Military invented the AGM Battery. Essentially, it's just a perfected lead acid battery. Spill proof, sealed for life, shock resistant, lasts longer, less degraded by cold. It just costs more to make.

But costs have come way down since 1st production as economy of scaled production has taken hold.

Well yes, theoretical science fairs are one thing, mass production is quite another.
I gleaned that from the AGM article but didn’t realize in the preamble they were giving a brife history of the lead acid battery , not AGM …but you can respond fast

Only because it's -20F windchill today and I'm retired. I don't even feel like going out to the shop. Yet.

When my OEM battery went out a few months ago I was a little shocked it only lasted a little over 2 years .. I called the dealership and they asked what battery I had, by the time I looked he already pulled my build sheet and saw that it was only a 730 amp maintenance free battery which does state on my build sheet, but he said my truck should of came with a group size 65 and 850 amp? Does that sound right ?
The Hemi's came with 730 CCA Battery, MY 19 has a 730 CCA, and it is listed on the build sheet. I do have an optional 180 amp instead of 160 amp alternator. If/when my OEM Battery goes stupid, I will replace with a Duralast Premium or Optima,. Ref my POST # 22.

Right, but the guy told me my truck "should" of came with an 850 and my battery didn't last that long, 2 years if I remember correctly might of been a little more ....

I gotcha,. the ole should of dealer line like the Cannot Replicate line, LOL. I say 730 CCA, because I am assuming U have a 1500, by yer Avatar info. But yeah, I will upgrade to a bigger battery when the time comes. Summer heat here "cooks" batteries. Weird, cause I got the ole felt cover battery box and when it hits around 110 degrees, pop the hood and U can "smell" the battery, boy that baby be cooking.

So recommendations for an uprated battery that is good with the cold up here in Canada?

Me, a Duralast Platinum or H7 Optima as a minimum, all IMHO..... Maybe even a H8 if it fit in the box, but a 880 CCA Optima H7 do U real well !!!!! IMHO... :33:

See my post #22. Now those are US Autozone prices. I have no idea what type of Auto Stores, etc U got in Canada. Not been to Canada since late 70's, and once in 2001 to visit wife's Aunt in Fort Frances.

THIS is what a quik search showed me ref Canada Auto: If going there, I would get the highest CCA Interstate Battery. If U can get an Optima, I would do that over an Interstate, but I know nothing about parts and stuff in Canada.

Spin the dice and see. The Interstate will fit being a H7, on the H8 U need to look at specs and see if fit ( ie., measure battery box), and than make a decision. Just depends, no way I can make ne recommendation, not a mechanic, and not there (me thinks I am real far south being in Texas). I have had Interstate Batteries in the long past, they were lead acid but worked fine. The Interstate has the same CCA, so U just gotta make a choice. They are both AGM batteries according to specs. GL on all that.

Cheers buddy, looking at the battery i think there's plenty of room for a beefier unit!

H8 fits perfect in my 2016, when you pull your battery, look in the bottom of the tray, you will see a little plastic piece in the middle of the tray on the side closest to the windshield - Remove it and bammm - you can now fit an H8 - aka stock ecodiesel battery.

Many of them come with AGM. I think it is based on trim level but not sure.
Yes, I am aware of that. However, I am wondering if the charging voltage going into the battery might be different than those trucks that do not come with AGM.
My RAM is a 2017 and the OEM battery is not AGM

I honestly didn't notice but didn't look for it either.
Is it an ecodiesel thing or just a cold weather package thing? I have a 16 Outdoorsman w/cold weather package except block warmer.

I worried about this also, I couldn't get the dealer even to tell me if I had ECM code for battery type sensing. So I said screw it and put one in anyway. I haven't boiled it yet - which would be the failure mode (overcharge - AGMs are more efficient so need a lower charge rate).

I've had excellent luck with Interstate batteries. we have a local Interstate shop here, they always offer a good, better, best options and take care of the install. Replaced the one in my 2018 RAM a couple months back, no issues. I never go for the cheapest battery. Always do the middle or high end choices.
