My son has an aFe on his 2015 and I recently installed a VOLANT on my 2018. The fit and finish on the aFe unit is superior. Not sure of any performance gains, since it’s only been a month and around town only. If I had it to do over, I’d go with the aFe. 38E32CAA-29CB-4092-92F0-7167B8363939.jpeg

I got a used Volant intake because I got a good deal and I wanted to use the Donaldson air filters. I haven't noticed any change in MPG and I have no other mods or tune.

I would not. Use one. For the last 6 months 10k miles I was using a drop in k@n filter. I switched back a few weeks ago to stock filter and no difference at all.
And your right to do so. The original is one of the best cold air filter system designed to fit your engine and the truck.

I have the MOPAR brand and haven't experienced anything amazing with my HEMI's performace.

I like the ease of cleaning the filter and not having to purchase a new one when it gets dirty and throwing the old one away. That may be a good enough reason for having an CAI.

Since there are so many different Cold Air Intakes too choose from. What are some of the preferred ones too use. Best bang for your buck?
I have S&B but hate it. Need to almost take it apart to change filter. I found the

Vararam Air Grabber Intake 2009-2018 Dodge Ram 5.7L Hemi which I really like and will probably get one.

They'll dress up the engine compartment but that's it.

I paid for the Mopar CAI and hood snorkel. Love it! Easy Install. Easy Maintenance.

That, coupled with the Mopar Catback exhaust and ARH LT... My truck sounds amazing.

I got HP tuners, which if you're wanting to unlock that hidden HP/TQ - you'll want it.

I have the S&B CAI on my 6.4 and absolutely love it. Has clear top to check on when it needs cleaning and an additional side port you can remove to let that thing drink. The sound is awesome. Zero issues. Easy install if you are handy. Customer service is great. I have the cleanable filter but they sell the replaceable ones if you don't want to deal with that.
Diito...love mine too.

I've been trying to wrap my head around the CAI hoopla. In looking at the stock air filter set up, it is already drawing air from outside the engine bay, thus it is a CAI by the original definition. Sure, other systems may provide larger piping/filter/etc but I don't see how they could possibly make a difference unless you drastically increased your air needs. What I could see making a difference is if you were to add insulation to the air piping and filter housing so the engine bay temps don't increase air temp as it is pulled in but not sure how much of a difference due to the speed of the air.

What am I missing? Are the CAI systems just a great marketing scheme for people that don't understand the stock system or am I missing something (fully admit that's a possibility)?
