Guys, Ive found what i think is a decent deal on a 2019 2500 Cummins.. I’ve always wanted one so needless to say I’m excited.. However, I’m hesitant to jump on it because of the CP4 pump recall.. im probably being a bit over cautious.. I know that they have had a recall but does that mean they have parts availability? Or will i be waiting for the CP3?

You could wait until RAM has the parts available for the conversion OR (and what I'd do) negotiate the price of the truck at a price to include setting aside $2800 for one of the few conversion kits that are available like this one.

You would be waiting with the rest of us '19 and '20 owners for the recall pump to become available. I'd pass, unless it's an absolute steal of a deal.

A couple months ago I would have said run from it. But now that the recall is out it will be replaced.....when parts are a available (which is going to be a while)
Good thing is it is covered if it does fail. Maybe use that as a bargaining chip and see if you can get the price lower. No doubt it is over priced given the current market.

Ok Thanks for the link.. and it gives me another 3k of negotiation leverage.. from what i hear is that it’s about a 4% failure rate.. and it’s with low fuel and low quality fuel that precipitates the failure

Any clue on how long the wait could be? Months? Years?

I have a 19’ Tacoma.. also had a fuel pump recall.. took a few months but was replaced without issue.. some others had issues before it was readily a available, trucks sat at the dealer for months awaiting parts

It doesn't matter what brand you got, you're waiting for parts right now.
If I had to take an educated guess, March or April they would start scheduling to perform the recall. Like I said, it's a guess.

No earthly idea. I'd guess several months.
The Service Manager at the Dealership looked up my truck and did see that my truck has the CP4.2 and that a recall notice would be coming out for my truck the 1st quarter of this year, which is now. So, I'll look for it.

But if it does fail, what does he do then? Is there a pile of CP4's available? And what if it destroys the motor? Sounds like the risk is pretty high - which probably why the truck is available?

The failure rate is pretty low so I wouldn't loose sleep over it..... A couple hundred thousand of these trucks are on the road every day still working fine.

I have a 2019 Cummins. I worked for Cummins for a long time. I wouldn't expect the recall for a while. But I wouldnt be too worried. Definitely negotiate with them. And absolute worse case scenario the pump grenades and takes out you fuel rails and injectors. The base engine would be fine. And with it now being a recall I would fight it hard to get repaired under warranty because of the recall.
