AC compressor locked up on my 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 V8 Laramie. Wondering if anyone knows if you can bypass the AC compressor pully with a shorter belt? Can't find anything online so either a ne compressor is in order for me of a bypass pulley with the same length belt! Any help is appreciated.

The compressor locked up or the clutch did?

Have a good look at the routing and make nice with a parts guy, they should let you dig for belts to find one that fits.

If it is just the clutch, replace it. They are not too expensive.

If it is the compressor unplug the wiring harness so there is no chance the clutch will engage and try to spin the compressor.

That is what I did on our old Chevy Blazer when it failed and I didn't feel like spending the money on a new compressor.

Compressor locked up. Total repair at dealer is about 2 grand so can't really afford it right now. Might see if I can replace the bearing and unplug the harness in the compressor and use it that way maybe !

This is an easy repair, go buy a new/reman compress from parts store, get the ac system drained, r & r the compressor then go back to the place that drained and have it serviced. Should be around $400 for everything.

If it's just the compressor, unplug it and got about your business. The clutch will spin and you'll be fine.

If it's the clutch that's bad, it has to be addressed immediately.

What part of Canada are you in? Tim at Total Truck in Spruce Grove/Edmonton has made a couple idler pulleys to delete the compressor, mostly for the go fast guys looking for that last little bit of extra power, and to get rid of some weight off the front end of their toys. As far as i know, nobodies ever found a belt that'll bypass the compressor, but as stated above, you could see if a good partsman would let you try a few shorter belts

I am in Newfoundland...Not sure yet what to do. Took a look at it that time and still have refrigerant in the system and the clutch spins...wondering if I just need to replace the clutch assembly. Seems to be enough room under truck to do it...just have to figure out how to stop the clutch from spinning to remove that bolt !

If the clutch spins freely with no noise when de-energized, but the compressor smokes the belt when the clutch energizes and engages, like you say, the compressor is junk.

$2K CAD is about right for a shop to do a new compressor, total system flush, probably a filter/dryer change and re-charge with R-1234yf which is expensive itself.

If the compressor shat itself, there's going to be debris throughout the system that needs to be flushed out.

^^^^^ This. If the pulley spins fine when off then just disconnect the clutch connector.

My pulley is seized so would like to replace the clutch and pulley but can't fins any place that sells this as a kit for a 2015 Ram,,only the compressor assembly. With the system still sealed and with pressure I might have to bite this one and order a new compressor and belt and have the truck towed to a crappy tire that has the new refringent unit.

Just looked at my build sticker on the door.

Date of manufacture is 11-14
MDH code is 112310

Nov. 23rd was a Sunday, didn't expect to see a Sunday for a build. 10AM build time, too. Interesting.

At least it wasn't built on a Friday afternoon or Monday morning.......lol

If the AC compressor is under the power steering pump and to the driver's side of the crank pulley, you need a belt that is 4" shorter to bypass it. I have a 2011 5.7 and just did it. Factory belt was Dayco 5060795 and bypass belt is 5060755. Gates is K060795 and bypass is K060755. It is holding me over until I get my new AC clutch pulley in the mail in a few days.
