Hello,

I have a 4th Generation Ram 1500 Classic 5.7 HEMI that I’ve noticed has started to idle rough and stumble around in park, especially after cold start, it’s a bit less noticeable after warmup. If I rev the engine it goes away initially but if I hold it around 1,000 to 1,500 RPMs it starts shaking as well. I don’t notice it in gear, zero issues or hesitation while driving.

I had a P0137 check engine light about a month ago, took it to the dealership, they advised all was well and reset the code, it hasn’t come back since. I took it there again this week for the continued rough idle but they stated it was normal and the engine is trying to run lean while at idle and in park but I’m not buying it.

I went out of my way and put 16 new OEM spark plugs and the O2 sensor that triggered the CEL which helped slightly but it’s still not right.

Is there something else I should look for or replace? Coils maybe? Master technician assured me everything was within normal parameters and there were no misfires.

(Not trying to be critical of anyone but please don’t tell me to go back to the dealership and make them figure it out, yes it’s ideal if the techs were competent but I’d rather fix it myself or at least give them more ideas of what it could be doing)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You don't say how many miles you have,on your truck or if you might have got a bad tank of fuel at your last fill up. Try buying gas at a different station. Try some lucas fuel injector cleaner and see if that helps.

Thank you, Ive been running shell premium v-power 93 octane fuel which seems to help a bit but it still shakes a more than I’d like, it also shakes if I rev in park and hold it around 1500 RPM too, I’ll try Lucas fuel treatment and see if it helps. What could’ve caused the P0137 CEL though?

That code is in regards to bank 1, sensor 2 low voltage. The "sensor 2" or downstream sensors are catalyst functionality monitors and don't do anything for fuel trims, unless something has changed for later models.

If you changed that specific sensor and that exact code came back, I'd look for a chaffed wire to the sensor, green crusty corrosion on the connector, etc.

I know my 2019 classic w/ hemi kind of rocks to the beat of the idle when at a stop light, etc, but I don't ever sit with it idling in park to notice the same.

I honestly wouldn't waste my cash on 93 octane fuel for a stock 2019 classic, but that's me.

Do you always buy your fuel from the same station? I'd imagine the 93 oct tanks sit around awhile. Just something to think about.

Yup, I was thinking the same thing. And with the addition of ethanol it's more hydroscopic. That can equal water in the gas. That could make it run rough in the right situation.

I have a 21 quad /Hemi/3.21 and had a rough idle from day 1 . I was told at the first oil change from the service advisor that is how they run . I didn’t buy that answer so I went back at the next oil change and had them scan it . It showed no engine codes so they kept it and on their computer or whatever tests they ran it came back as a bad valve /collapsed valve maybe 2 . They put a new head on it ( pax side ) and it still ran bad 2 weeks later . I took it back to another dealer and they agreed it was idling rough and decided to go visit the original dealer that it was purchased at and serviced at. At 24 k the original dealer installed a new engine and it still is running rough. I plan to take it this week and see what the issue is w the new engine . I use super unleaded and the proper beak in procedure was followed both times . I have an attorney ready to take my case so I will keep you updated

I didn't read anything about verifying injector flows, spark plugs, coils or sensors in your report. 99x out of a 100 it's the small things. Every once in a while you get a whacked out sensor that doesn't exhibit a bad signal when ya check (like a low-reading MAF), but can BE bad and throw off the computer and run bad. Been there.
