What is this on the rear bumper?

Hi. I just bought a new 2022 RAM 2500 with the hemi. It’s my first real truck!

Anyway, there’s this thing on the rear bumper that I couldn’t find in the owner’s manual - it’s to the left of the rear tag. I’ve added two pictures. Can someone tell me what this is, please? BTW, I asked my salesperson and he said he’d never seen it before and to contact the service department. Thank you.

My guess is that it is to connect a travel trailer rear back up camera so you can see it on your screen.

Look at the icon on the cover - it is of a dump trailer with a camera on the back.

Check the apps and see if there is one for that.

You are wise beyond your years, it is the camera hook up for trailer camera extension.

That is exactly correct.

RCA connector for trailer cam.

While you are checking out your new Ram
Check out the 3rd brake light
I think if it has a Black or Smoke lens, you may find that it has two cameras
The normal one would be for the cargo camera
the second one is to view the front of the trailer or the load on the trailer, you can direct the view of that camera, with a control on the rear view mirror

New for 2022 two different proces too. If it has the factory camera that was a 450 dollar option. If it does not have the camera that particular plug is 515 and is for installing a camera on the rear of the trailer your towing.

Do you happen to know the part numbers that will add the plug on the bumper, the camera and the wiring? I have a 22 1500 Limited and will need the camera shortly when I install my canopy.

I think that if you look at the rear view mirror, on the bottom it has an extra switch or two
That will be the switch that controls the video to that switch on the bumper

The camera itself can be put anywhere, inside the trailer or outside

The camera is actually a video camera, i am pretty sure that you can focus, up , down & possibly left & right

The same camera can be found in several different vehicles & i don't just mean Chrysler vehicles
Depending on which vehicle it is used in, the PRICE varies widely & they all have to same part number, Hyundai is the cheapest

a 2022 2500 Laramie.
It has the digital rearview mirror which currently uses a camera in the center break light for a 'digital view' of the rear.
I will be adding camper to be installed in the truck bed - effectively blocking the existing view camera view.
From my understanding of the mirror controls and the vauge information in the manual - it seems you can add a 2nd camera to be able to see behind a trailer or in my case the

What do I need to add that second camera? Since the controls between two camera are already set up in the mirror, hopefully it's a simple plug and play

I don't know the part number for you but you may find it on Google. I ordered the wired tow mode camera it was a 450.00 option on my 3500 build. it's a camera you mount on the back of your trailer and comes with 45 feet of expandable cable so I hear. it is different lengths that attach to make the length you need I think it's up to 45 feet I could be wrong. but once you have it you can use your digital rear view mirror to see behind the trailer. or in your case you could also mount it on your bumper to see behind the truck if need be. it plugs into the connector by the tow connectors.
