I feel like I just found the jackpot. This is precisely what I am looking to do.

I do have two questions, has anyone tried this with a Cummins? I would need to retain my exhaust brake feature. Also do you have any clue what it would take to enable the trailer cameras?

I have a toy hauler and man the surround view and trailer camera would be amazing to have. Can't turn down upgrading from my 8.4 to a 12" either.

Mine is a '17 2500 Cummins Laramie BTW.

There is no reason why it would not work with a cummins. You will need to get a lower switch panel out of a 2500 that has all the buttons that you need for the exhaust brake.

We are still working on getting the surround view, and potentially trailer cameras, working. Still a work in progress but we're chipping away at it.

A bit more progress .
Still waiting on last mirror to come in .
The front view shows the parking sensors as well .
Had to add another can module to convert a message .
Thanks for helping me with that Roman .
Will keep pushing to get this working .

I finally got my other mirror in and installed .
I can’t get the side and rear cameras to Calibrate still .
I did try a diagnostic session with my cvpm and some direction from Roman and got the 360 to work for this key cycle .
I will try and get my cvpm calibrated in a Pacifica some week here and then throw it back in the truck .
This is just a short term solution hopefully as getting Hold of a Pacifica might not be Easy for others etc

I'd be interested in helping anyway I can. I design and program commercial AV systems so could potentially be of some help. I write Crestron code, on it's higher level is C+ and C# not sure what you guys are working in but if I can help I'd gladly do it...

I figured I'd need the lower switch panel, and I imagine the buttons would appear on the touch panel if applicable. but that's what I was hoping to confirm.

Made a lot of progress on the surround view! My truck looks like a bomb went off right now but it all looks to be working. Even the trailer cameras will work, just need to actually have some hooked up and run the wiring for them.

Whats left:
  • Mount the front and rear cameras
  • Run the calibration
  • Need to check my CHMSL camera cable since that doesn't seem to be working
  • Finalize the HVAC translation module
  • Figure out exactly what all is needed to get the radio to behave as I have a ton of stuff being spoofed right now.

I was able to get an 8.4 radio from a 5th gen installed and working on a 4th gen, so here’s some info on that. This is the UAV 8.4 with navigation. A few things to let you know about this, first:
1- If all you’re looking to do is have an 8.4 upgrade for CarPlay or Android Auto, there’s really no advantage of installing this instead of the UAQ or UAS radio. The only reason I did this is to ultimately get the factory surround view from the 5th gen working on my 4th gen, and the UAS/UAQ radios don’t support it, so *hopefully* this thread evolves into how to do that.
2- The UAV 8.4 is three separate parts: the display screen, the radio module, and the LVDS cable that links the 2 together. A “Y” conversion harness also needs to be made that plugs into the harness connector for the HVAC hard controls so that same connector can be plugged into the display screen (more on that later).
3- The back of the center stack with radio bezel has to be modified to be able to screw the display screen to it.
4- The windows version of AlfaOBD is needed to make the necessary change to get the display screen to work. At this time, the Android version isn’t capable.
5- I haven’t tested this on any other vehicle except mine- 2017 Ram 2500 Tradesman. I drove around for a day and a half with multiple drive cycles to make sure everything I could think of works the way it should before finalizing the install.

Part number for the display screen is 68356773AD. The radio module is 68307655AI. The LVDS cable is 68082364AC.

A conversion Y harness needs to be built for the HVAC/Hazard switch controls. The two circled connectors are the same 8 way connector that contain the same circuits, just with different pin locations, and they both need to be plugged in. View attachment 439381 The red circled connector is the original one that the factory dash harness plugs into. Here’s it’s pin layout- View attachment 439382

Here’s the pin layout of the purple circled connector on the display screen- View attachment 439383

You’ll have to build a harness that plugs into the female 8 way dash harness connector, takes those circuits, and branches them off to the appropriate pin locations on both circled connectors. View attachment 439384
What type off wire crimpers do you need to buy to install the terminals on he wire. What type of 20 awg wire did you use?

ok, be honest. How much would doing something like this cost? Roughly? Is there a materials list? I'm terrible at parking and this would save me big.

So I thought I would add this to this thread .
I’m currently in the process of adding aux camera to my travel trailer
All of the parts I got off Amazon .
Except i had m2 mods rca pigtail from a project before .
All the truck side wiring is done .
I just need to run the 4 pin cable to the rear of the trailer still .
Here is a pic of the camera just sitting on the top of my tail gate .
I had to drill a half inch hole for the
Bumper connector .
Here are the parts I have bought so far .
The main trailer wiring kit I got is used for one camera only but they have the same setup for 2 cameras as well .
Thanks again to Roman for getting the aux cameras and 360
Working for us .

Here is a pic of the connector installed on the bumper .
The connector comes in a chrome color so I just spray painted it black with some marine black spray paint .
I will add to this thread of which pins the aux cameras getting pinned into the radio .

That's good to know. I wonder if it has to do with the LIN BUS messaging differences though I doubt it since the LIN BUS connection goes to the BCM if I recall correctly. The camera works without issue on the UAV radio?
I admire what you are doing.I have a 2017 1500 with the 8.4 nav i installed with lockpick device and hd 3D surround view system i have been using for a few years now and it was so time consuming getting everything to work with the blind spot view along with the Uconnect while driving turn signals, and on demand .I am now redesigning the cameras as i upgraded my grill and added power fold mirrors so camera placement is key.I will do a write up on it when i get it all updated.

Let us know how we can help. I am sure we have information on both sides to share to improve this stuff.
