I’ve been thinking about removing the active shutters. A couple concerns:
1-will it void the warranty??
2-do the temperatures stay more consistent? Mine swing by sometimes 25+ degrees and seems hot to me
3-I bought a kit to fool the computer to think they are still there but I’m second guessing the idea of removal.

Yes - removing or disabling the shutters can void the power train warranty.

Why do you want to alter the design of the vehicle?

Pop the middle shutters out, just leave one upper and lower shutter in place on both sides.Won't throw any codes or leave any trace able footprint if you do have a warrenty claim.Just pop them back in before any warrenty work.If you don't like them out,it's easily reversable.

It gets very cold up here, like -50 F. Active shutters are a GREAT invention. No more carpet between the grill and rad and no more grill inserts. Never had a problem with over heating. If your temp is fluctuating that much it is more likely your Thermostat than the effect of the shutters. My temps don't fluctuate much.

I am starting to get temp swings also, had dealer check: No rad leaks, no codes. SO they R ordering a new e-fan for me. IF it gets real cold where U R, U may want to consider leaving in the AGS.

There's a few guys who pop them out for the summer and reinstall them for the winter, there's also a few of us old school guys who swap thermostats for the summer and switch back to a hotter one for the winter.Used to be a fairly common thing to swap thermostats in the olden muscle car days, lol

I used to swap between 160 and 180 on this old toy,and i still swap between 160 and 180 on my truck, lol. For the amount of time it takes to swap a thermostat on a 5.7,it's a piece of cake to run differant ones for the weather, plus it keeps fresh anti-freeze in it,lol. The younger generation doesn't seem to be as ambitious as the older generation when it comes to swapping summer parts for winter parts, lol

It’s my understanding that the Ram Rebel 4th gen trucks do not have the active shutters. Of course, the Rebel was not necessarily built to get great gas mileage.

I took mine out years ago and had to tune it out after the screw in the actuator trick wouldn't work for me. While trying the screw in the actuator trick and getting emissions done, I had them in and out a few times. Surprisingly, I'd get 1 to 1.5 mpg more with no ags.

68 Camaro ??? I just stayed with the 180, worked for the big 396. Friend had a 383 in his Chrysler 300 that we had a double 4 pack manifold set up with extra cookie sheet gaskets. We would go to track, pull off the 4 barrel carter, and drop on the 2 (4's) and run. Go to garage, put stock back on and leave. Can't do stuff like that these days, lmao.

That old 396, Impala 2 door Super Sport I had was a 3 on the tree. When we dropped a rod, we pulled out and dropped in a lighter 327. We changed the tranny and put in a 4 speed saginaw, but we must have been a lil silly when working, and got the shift rods reversed which gave the car "funny" gearing. WE never did go back and drop and correct. We used a cold chisel to cut hole in front hump for shifter, etc, just only had a piece of rug over the hole. OHHHH, the days, LOL When that 327 was going, we dumped in 3 gallons of oil and drove to the junk yard. Memories, hee hee. Also had Hush thrush on car, illegal on road those days. We would pull, paint battleship grey and stuff with brillo type of mesh to quiet down for inspection, roflmao,.

Back in high school i had a buddy with a 69 Impala with a 327.That old 327 used to burn a quart of oil every 50 miles. He scrounged all the used oil from the local garages,to keep it running. When we finally pulled it and replaced the 327 with a 350,we pulled the heads off the old 327,and i don't know how the pistons didn't swap holes, they were that loose,i miss those days, lol. I used to go through a big block usually once or twice a summer, one of the better engines i had in it was a 396,it actually lasted a full year, lol. After blowing up a couple 4 speed Muncies with 6,000 rpm clutch drops on slicks,i converted it to a Turbo 400,wasn't as much fun as the 4 speeds, but was quicker and more consistent at the track. I built the car to pick up girls, and it did that easily, lol. The car ended up in a couple hotrod mags in the early 80's

It's OK with me, you have my permission. :D

My truck doesn't vary by that much. Is it when towing?
As mentioned in previous replies, have you checked the thermostat and the electric fan operation?

Yes - removing or disabling the shutters can void the power train warranty.
Number one, how, without proving removing them was the cause of whatever the warranty claim was? If that's the case then putting on mud tires, off-road suspension, a CAI or aftermarket muffler would void everyone's warranty.
Why do you want to alter the design of the vehicle?
What does that have to do with anything? The Rebel, being that its meant to be more of an off-road ready platform, doesn't even come with the AGS so if it really doesn't need it then why would the other models? All it's for, really, is for aerodynamics to help satisfy Chrysler's need to stroke the EPA's infatuation with fuel economy. The only thing really the AGS is good for minutely is making cold-weather warmups a little quicker.

As one person said for people who live up in severely cold climates, the AGS might help the motor to stay a little warmer without the need of a winter front but other than that, tell me what's so special about its design?

If you are driving into the wind, the AGS blocks air from buffeting around the condenser, radiator, etc.

If you are driving any way but directly into the wind, it makes absolutely no difference at all.

When they were testing designs in the wind tunnel, the vehicle is always heading into the wind.

So the engineers are stretching the truth
, when they claim the AGS saves X amount of miles per gallon

Saying it makes no difference at all if it's not a headwind isn't true. Unless you have a tailwind equal to the speed you're traveling there is a benefit. That benefit peaks when driving into a headwind. Vehicles are still subject to drag on a windless day, if you don't believe that put your hand out the window while driving.

So you're claiming 'wind' doesn't buffet around the condenser, radiator, etc. unless the truck is driving into the wind?

Relative velocity is a thing. You are pretty much always driving into the wind on the highway because your truck is moving through the air faster than the air is moving away from your truck.

but driving into the wind is like a head on crash
driving with the wind is more like bumping bumpers

the wind force is much reduced traveling with the wind or crossways to the wind
