My 18 2500 has chrome bumpers. I really like them because they pretty much never get chipped up, etc. We have other vehicles with painted front ends and they always get ugly over the years. Looking at some '22 Limited's and all of them have painted bumpers, so wondering what folks experience is with the Ram painted bumpers. Going to get chipped up over time, or does Ram do something to mitigate that?

I have a 2014 R/T and I don't really see any damager to the front bumper. Dodge/Ram do use pretty soft paint though. I had a 2015 Charger SRT 392 and it had a lot of dimples in it.

I did a wrap on my 2008. Seems pretty durable. You might think about LineX for durability.

I could not wait to get rid of the chrome on my Ram
It is a truck, not 1957 Cadillac

I wash my truck with a wand at a car wash & i am sure not going polish chrome

I just converted my 16 Laramie to a sport by dumping the chrome grill and chrome bumpers front and rear. Looks 1000% better

Actually, i tailgate semi trucks for a living
I have to be close enough that another vehicle can Not get in between my truck & the semi truck & load in front of me.
Those truck tires are constantly throwing rocks & sand into the front of my Ram.

With paint up front, a little sand paper, primer an touch up paint & everything is new again.
My windshield takes a beating too, i usually get a new windshield every 2 or 3 years

Here i am following a tree, it was only about a 50 miles move

1646982752518.pnghere i was about to follow a mining truck dump bed
There were two beds going to a gold mine that day
There was 4 or 5 California Highway Patrol cars with us

Is your painted bumper a fascia or metal underneath? I had a 2014 Laramie with the painted metal bumper. All chipped up and needed repainting after 1st year. 28K miles daily commute Michigan I-75 one hour each way. Ram's do not have soft paint. Both Michigan plants use powder primer and excellent clearcoats. Saltillo uses liquid primer and the same clearcoat as SHAP. WTAP has an especially hard clearcoat in the Classic series and previous. FWIW when I ordered my last Ram, the one I have now, I ordered the chrome bumper. If I had a non-plated bumper, I would spring for PPF ASAP after I took delivery.

you can wrap a painted bumper in 3M clear and it will hold up for years.....unless you actually bump into something......

You can install some PPF on the front end of your truck to help protect against chips. While it will not prevent all rock chips it sure will reduce the number. Most of the PPF is also "self-healing". It comes in two thicknesses I think 8 mil and 11 mil. You might think about the 11 mil if you do a lot of highway driving. Also, wrap your hood and the back of your outside rearview mirrors.

Thanks, I've applied PPF to several of our vehicles over the years, but never on an entire bumper. But I'm sure I'd do that if I had to settle for a painted bumper on a new truck.

I did the entire front end of my sports along with the grille and mirrors. It sure saves the paint and it's a lot cheaper in comparison to having the front end painted periodically.

I have painted bumpers, in fact, the last 4 rams were painted. Although bugs seem to be more noticeable, never experienced any chips or nicks. i may have been lucky, but the Rams do have a good paint formula on their vehicles. It is not often i am on rougher roads either, gravel example, but the odd stone has never left any marks to be concerned about. After I wax, they look new again.

not sure, they usually have it treated not painted.
Sorry, I was just kidding, hence the smiley. I know how chrome is applied.

At this point, I relaize I will have to order a truck if I want to get what I want. If I do that, I will get the bumpers I want.
