hey guys I was wondering what different methods of rust prevention you or someone you know of has used on their 2nd gen. I have a 94' that is in pretty good shape, the previous owner had the foresight to use bedliner on the lower bedsides, cab, doors and front fenders. and it has kept this truck in pretty good shape, since I purchased it I've sanded the frame, painted it, cleaned up little rust spots here and there on the cab floor, I've also sprayed fluid film into the front fenders, and rear bedsides. it's held up well but every once in a while I see a new spot bubbling or the paint chipping with rust below. now it's not a big deal, it isn't supposed to be a perfect truck, but I'd like to hear what others are doing to preserve their 2nd gen dodge :p

Bubbling means the rust is under the paint. You need to scrape off the old paint and rust first, then new paint.

Research how to apply Fluid Film completely after you get rid of the rust.

On my 01 the fender wells were rusted up on each fender 1and 1/2" because of the rubber in the fender lip. The body shop said do away with the rubber, wire brush the loose rust, rust proof then install fender lips. Looks good . I take the lips off every 2-3 yrs just to keep the rust in check. Installing new metal is expensive for a old wood hauler. I also used the rust proofing on the bottom sides from bumper to bumper, up 6". Everything chrome is also black now .

Ive been thinking of buying and trying some of that NHOU product I have been hearing about so much these last few years. especially since I now have a car payment again for the 1st time in 17 years. (I just made the 1st one a few hours ago, 47 left to go)

For some years now I've been using Salt Eliminator. Bought on Amazon. It was designed for use in boat motors, but somewhere along the line somebody got the idea to spray it on vehicles. Highly concentrated, just mix a cup or so in a gallon of water. Using a simple pump sprayer I spray it on the body and undercarriage before the season and during winter on warmer days. So far so good.

On my 2020 Ram 2500 I have it Krown underbody coated every year. I get it done just before they oversalt the roads in NY. Road salt should be illegal! Lets stop pandering to the bad drivers and force people to learn how to drive!

Yeah Salt Eliminator or Salt Away both work well but will need to be reapplied pretty often depending on the elements. To stop existing rust use OSHPO.

Around November, I spray Fluid Film all over the visible parts, and inside small areas. I have ketchup squeeze bottles full of tranny fluid and white Vinegar. I shoot those inside the frame rails, hidden areas, inside doors, etc. Everything adheres to the metal, and repels the bad stuff.
Do it again next November.

I want to try the Fluid Film on the underside of my truck. Seems like it works good.

Best regards,
