For theft protection I want to find a wire in the engine compartment and route it through
the drivers dashboard with a hidden toggle switch that when I cut the switch off it will disable the truck.
I want to do this for theft protection. Basically an engine kill switch. I dont want to interfere with other computer functions etc. Is there a wire to the ignition for instance that would work ? PS. model is 2015 1500 V8
What about a hot or ground wire going to the fuel pump ?

Can't help you with your question, but your post reminds me of all the kill switch tricks we used to do back in the day:

- A push button switch behind the cigarette lighter
- Using a floor dimmer switch
- A toggle in the rear driver side door ashtray so you could reach back with your left hand

Google is your friend. There's several video's showing how to disable the push button start switch on the cars, same wire and principle would apply to the trucks push button start switch.Basically cut the red wire to the start button, interrupt it with a toggle or rocker switch, then hide the switch.Everything is done inside,no having to run wires through the firewall

But what if the crooks watch the same videos?? (Lol!)
If they really want it,they've steal it anyways, this just slows them down enough ,hopefully they'll give up and move to another vehicle. The idea is to hide the switch, you'll notice none of the video's show where they hid the switch, that's up to you to figure out, lol. You could always pop the fuel pump relay out and stick it in your pocket to,lol

Back in the day just pull the coil wire & take it with you.
Today, I'd pull the ignition fuse instead of cutting into wiring.
And FYI, any decent car thief would look for a kill switch in all the places you're thinking of putting one.

I knew a guy who used to stomp the E-brake to the floor, then take the handle with him, might still work as most thieves aren't carrying a pair of vise grips with them, lol

We all know that you ALWAYS cut the red wire.

On some seized drug vehicles we found all kinds of hidden compartments that were controlled with solenoids wired to some sort of logic chip. To open one you had to do stuff in a certain order, like turn lights on twice, left signal, honk horn, place in reverse, ad nauseum. Pretty clever.

If you were really worried, you're best bet might be just to take the battery and tires with you when you park it,that way it's sitting on the ground and they can't get under it to poke a hole in the tank to steal the gas or the cats, lol;):Big Laugh:

Just park next to an early 2000s ford. They're easier to steal so they'll probably take that instead. Most trucks are stolen to commit other crimes.

We had a TRX in the shop that had a round cut off key. You just pulled it out and it wouldn't start.

I wonder how much good it would do. Most criminals know there are a bundle of wires within easy reach under the steering column. They reach under the column, scrunch their eyes and make a grimace on their face, then a body-jerking-motion as they pull the slack on the wires ...nice of the factory to give that extra slack ...then cut a couple wires. It doesn't seem to even matter which ones a guy cuts, but I think it's safe to say you touch the red wire to the black wire. I think any combo of wires work. Then, you MUST scratch the wires together to produce some sparks. Once there are some sparks it'll start right up. Seen it demonstrated on TV at least 50 times.

In all seriousness, you could also run a secret switch and wires to bypass the starter solenoid wire. That would thwart any high-tech attempt or re-wire.

However you do it, just make sure your work is 100%. In my experience, after 3 years you forget how you did the wire job specifically, then suddenly one day the truck won't start in a parking lot ...and you have to trace back what ya did in case that is the problem. My luck is, i'd be having a heart attack and a good samaritan couldn't get my truck started to get me to the hosp.. :banghead:

Hey, let us know what method you found to be best.

YUP, there are garages all over major cities and some rural I guess that do this stuff all the time, especially down in Mexico, EL Paso area, etc for obvious reasons.

I must be living right. in my 63 years on this earth I have never worried about a vehicle being stolen and I have never had an emotional connection to any of the many vehicles I have owned to worry about it. If one were to get stolen I would just collect insurance money and buy another one.

No emotional connection to a vehicle???!!

I have emotional connections to a lot of vehicles. That's good and bad. Although it would suck big time if one of mine got stolen, at the end of the day, it IS ultimately just a machine that can be replaced, or moved on from. Unlike a family member, etc. But hey, nothing wrong with the OP wanting a little extra peace of mind.

My main concern is never being able to replace the vehicle for the insurance payoff. My Ram is a 2008, 89K miles. Insurance aint gonna cover a new one and good luck finding a well maintained example.

My old PD went with that bait car, using a POS Honda. No one would steal it, and the coupleof times we staged a domestic or something and left it in the hood someone would turn it off.
