You're forgetting the actual danger...IF you are actually lightly applying the brakes while driving you run the risk of overheating/boiling which is the cause of "brake fade" aka loss of pressure. No brakes when you need them most.

I don't have a problem with two foot driving, so long as you arent applying the brakes.
Yeah, didn't think of that. However, I would suggest that someone driving with one foot on the brake pedal has enough pressure on the pedal to illuminate the brake lights. Just the lightest touch on the brake pedal causes the brake lights to come on. That little sensor turns them on once the pedal moves, even a fraction. Also, what about a near panic stop, where someone bows up and suddenly stops for no reason? The tendency to push the throttle at the same time and pressure as the brakes is coming into play then.

I would go to napa and purchase their premium parts and repair it yourself.
I had a dealer quote me a good price in their mind of 1,200.00 to replace the front pads on my ram when they were rotating the tires during an oil change.

My 2019 1500 Tradesman with 37,000 miles just dropped the passenger front brake pad. Took it to AutoNation Arapahoe in the Denver area about a mile away. The caliper failed. So 2 front calipers, 2 rotors and the pads are quoted at $1700. Am I out of touch or is this really what they charge these days?
Do it yourself and save a ton of cash, My last front brake job cost me less than 600 bucks as I bought the Evolution pads and rotors. These brakes are awsome zero brake dust and I mean zero dust but yours probably would be less as yours is a 1500 and mine is a 3500.

Purchased and replaced rotors and brakes on Amazon for my 1500, the rotors we much thicker too, cost my less than $500 for all and out them only myself. Didn’t need to bleed anything, had 100k miles on them. I’m shocked fallers are so quick on them in some vehicles. That’s crazy

what he said but chock the wheels. I bought an 18' from Carvana and they gave me bad brakes and refused to fix them so i did it myself. I was in a hurry and failed to chock the the wheels and soiled myself when it fell off the jack.
Good advice ... and good jack stands also advised!

I think what you’re implying here is the question Are Dealership franchise’s like AutoNation legitimate?

My personal experience with working for them and dealing with them as a customer is hell no.

Unless the caliper is physically damaged or the piston popped out of the bore I highly doubt you need to replace them. Even so, if it only happened on one side then replace just that one caliper. I dont know the cost of the parts but $1700 seems ridiculous for that job. It's a 2, maybe, and that's a big maybe, a 3 hour job start to finish. At the very least get a second opinion if you can or better yet do the job yourself if you have the ability. If you lived near me I'd do it for you. Good luck

2 Years ago far from home the rear calipers locked up on my 2013 Wrangler. A Jeep dealer in Colorado Springs took us in, gave us a loaner (there was a recall due) and did rotors, calipers, and pads for a little less than $1300. So yes, for a commercial shop today that could be in line. But like everybody says you can do the job at home a lot cheaper.

I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase anything from them, but my experience selling them a vehicle was pretty good.

I don't mind paying a professional to do a job. After all, he invested time and energy in himself for the education, training and skill. However, in these shops the "professional" usually does not see near the $100 per hour that you are charged. Well over half is overhead. As an aside, I needed a toilet changed out in my rental home two states away. I provided the new one piece toilet (no assembly required) and it was on relatively new construction (no unforeseen circumstances). A "plumber" showed up and was highly upset when I told him to "kick rocks" as I was not about to pay $680 for a 30 minute job.

i wouldnt pay the amount of this shop is asking for a brake job thats crazy, but for someone to come to your house and install a toilet for $680 seems reasonable.
My min trip charge is $500 which is cheap as you have to pay someone to drive there, pay someone to look at it, pay someone to install it, and pay them to drive to the next job. this does not count the liability insurance and workers comp the company has to pay. sending a guy out for a 30min job realistically cost the company 2+ hours they actually have to pay someone. he could sent his guy to a 4hr install charge a little more and just in drive time would of made the same money.

DIY! Local auto parts stores or a place like Rock Auto will be alot cheaper.

To revive the old thread - my 2019 1500 38K miles dropped the right front brake pads on the pavement. My driver took the truck to AutoNation, which is nearby. I got a quote of $1700 for 2 calipers, front pads, front rotors, labor.
Final cost today was $899 for 1 caliper, front pads, front rotors, labor. Truck in 2/11/22. Truck out 3/16/22. Multiple calls from me and driver "waiting for the caliper" until 3/15/22 "truck is done." Invoice shows work was actually completed 3/4/2022.

Meanwhile, our 2018 Ram 1500 90K miles also lost a front caliper. Driver went to Brakes Plus same day in and out. $590 total for 1 caliper, front pads, front rotors, labor.

Brakes Plus, Thornton - Yay! 1 day
AutoNation Arapahoe- incompetent. 32 days

We used to service our brakes in house and saved money on the parts and labor, but helping each other with repairs is a hassle. I keep a spare Ram for events like this so no lost production, but when I couldn't afford a spare it would have hurt us a lot.

So ends my "Let's try the dealer" experiment.

I paid around 1k for the Power Stop Z23 kit with all 4 rotors, calipers, and pads and had a friend help install them. They've been on for about a year now and they've been outstanding.
