Bought a set of Amp steps a few days ago, thought I would share . IMO the best steps as far as getting in ,and out of the truck that I have owned . My son runs them on his truck, and always like them . Anyway anyone that's thinking about a set ,you can't go wrong as far as the function of them getting in ,and out of a truck . Like anything mechanical, there's always the chance of any issue , although my sons have been on his 2016 since new without an issue . his truck is used for his job ,and he's in ,and out his several times a day . Plus we have salted roads here in Utah.

Never have liked the looks of side steps ,but sort of a necessary evil . Good riddance to my OE steps , hated them since day one . The placement of the step pads were all wrong IMO . They were okay getting into the truck, but when getting out I was always stepping just behind those plastic pads on to the chrome ,so they were getting scratched up . If I was to put some 303 on the pads ,it made them like ice skates, so that was never a good option .

Did you put on AMP power steps or just the regualr ones. I can say that the factory power steps are excellent, problem is you have to order Laramie or above to get them. We put AMP power on my brother's pick up and they have worked great for 5 years. You do have to keep them clean in the winter of they freeze and won't open.

Has anyone here Hi centered a truck with power step running boards? I don't want to smash 1600$ AMP steps I have damaged my non power running boards off road. I hope that the retract feature will give me enough ground clearance. stock express with 5100's at 2.1

Retracted the boards come up very close to your rocker panels, so long and short, if you damge these boards you would have pretty much damaged your truck even worse. Cost of the boards won't be the big expense in that scenario.

Can you see the boards? That's how high up under the truck they go. Had mine 4 years or so now and wouldn't be without them.

Mine are the Amp power steps. I scored pretty good on them, they were on a local classified site I frequent . Was browsing ,and they popped up as a new item , if not I would most likely never would of seen them. Texted the lady selling ,and said I would take them ,they were brand new still in the box. $800 , plus $250 installed at a local custom shop . I was going to order some ,and the best price I found was $1399.00, plus the installation ,which I was going to do to save few bucks ,but at $800, heck with that I will let someone else do it. So I am into them $1050. Actually my son recommended the shop, its where he got his several years ago . Dropped it off ,and had it back in about 5 hours .

That is an excellent deal. The factory ones were a 1200 option installed at the factory so not much more than the non powered option and they are very well built just like the AMPs so at that price for aftermarket you did great. What I really like about the power steps is they come down far enough to be half way to the ground, making it easy to step up and in, but when retracted they are right up at cab height so u lose no clearance.

The Amps ,you cannot see them when they are folded up underneath , other just the edge of them under the rocker panel . If I high center on them ,as someone said I got more problems then a bent step. :)

If I get a new truck ,they will be ordered for it ,or put on aftermarket as soon as I get the truck . Kick myself I didn't get them put on when I bought the truck new ,really didn't know about them or hadn't payed any attention to them , It was before my son put them on his Ram truck .

Thanks for the replies. I ordered a set of AMP steps.
Good move , you won’t regret them , did you order plug and play or non ? It makes sense to order without plug and play if you have someone install them . If you are installing , and don’t mind the extra wiring then you are money ahead all the way around . Some I’ve heard don’t like plugging into the diagnostic port with plug and play . I’ve also heard the little extra wiring is no big deal .

So I’ve even eying these but can’t decide some things. I. Their site it says they are 1099 then when u say quad cab ect it jumps to 1400 then 1600 if you want plug and play. I use my ODB2 for alfaODB so I’m not sure if I want to have to have harness plugged into that for steps and not be able to use Alfa. I feel I have heard on here about splitters ect guess I’m just unsure how people have done this.

You can definitely use a splitter and then you can have access to your obd2 for alfaobd ...

I guess I’m just unsure where to get one or if I need to anyone else have amp steps that are plug n play but also use Alfa?
I really don't get it. The factory Mopar Power steps are less than the AMP and there is no issues hooking them up. Why screw with aftermarket when oem is easily available and easier to install.

I too installed the AMP steps on my 2016 1500 Laramie Longhorn - though I went for the extreme version (two motors per side) - Yes the Extreme fit and function on the 1500 some say they don't. I chose the dual motors cause I wanted to ensure IF one motor malfunctioned there is still a functioning motor and the malfunctioned one I could turn into a ***** if needed. As posted here they are awesome and function extremely well.

As for the OBD2 - AMP sells splitter on their website or you can just unplug the AMP when making changes with Alpha

I also installed the override switch and would highly recommend this - I was able to install/hide it in the centre console.

I didn't even know they are making an Extrem version with 2 motors, that is pretty cool ..

My RBP powersteps have 2 motors which is the reason I went with them instead of the AMP steps...
