Need something to protect the tailgate when loading/unloading anything and from when anything shifts in the bed stuff. Possible options I've looked at are Weathertech Liner or the DeeZee universal tailgate mat. Not sure about the Bed Rug option as I've not had any experience with it. I've got a DeeZee bed mat for the bed floor. Thanks.

Old school was a piece of 3/4" treated plywood screwed to the tailgate. New school, get one of the thick rubber glue on tailgate matts. Some guys actually screw them in place too. Stroongly suggest if you have stuff sliding hard enough to dent the tail gate you find a way to tie them down. I have seen tailgates give way if the item is heavy enough.

I like how this cover goes over the existing molded plastic that sits on top of the tailgate. The description says it fits rambox trucks only though... Anyone know if it fits non-rambox trucks?

I don't go to the dealership much, or i would measure both type of tailgates.
I always have a couple measuring devices with me

Tail gates are the same with or without RamBox. I can only assume it's to do with how far the cover sticks up (thickness) from the tail gate to maybe interfere with the inner portion of the RamBox when the tailgate is closed. I've got a sprayed bedliner in my RamBox but I could help with an measurements of tailgate to bed clearance if you want something specific. (picture to maybe help explain the inside of the RamBox difference)

I have the OEM separated in Bed liner. It's nice for inside the bed but I have chipped the edge out it on my tailgate on more then one occasion. I always like the OEM ribbed plastic tailgate protector. It made life easy to slide heavy items over it into the bed. If I ever come across one I will be buying it in the future.
