Nice. That would reduce the butt hole stretching quite a bit.
I have geico and wranglers on my policy. We go through windshields pretty often. Lol. Having that low deductible has more than paid for itself. Not very expensive either.

Would new cats be covered by your auto insurance?
1k deductible, and not interested in getting new ones only for them to get stolen again. I can spend a couple hundred buck on new pipe and y-pipe. Just looking to see if there is a Kit available first to save time.

Some cities are already doing this in California

If passed, the bill would combat the increased theft of catalytic converters with three items:

  1. Require all new and used car dealerships to permanently engrave the car’s vehicle identification number onto the converter.
  2. Metal recyclers will only be allowed to buy a catalytic converters with a visible and untampered VIN, they must keep detailed records of who sold them, and make those records available to law enforcement.
  3. Increase the fines and jail time for those buying, selling or possessing a stolen catalytic converter.
  4. “The bottom line is that California is the number one in the nation for catalytic converter thefts,” said Senator Brian Jones
Chula Vista, down close to the Mexico US Border has already bought an engraver to start doing it, I heard that San Diego may do the same.

It will take forever to etch 2 million automobiles
I am sure the Mexican scrap metal dealers will be checking cats for VIN's. The US based scrap metal dealers who knowingly deal in stolen cats won't be deterred either.

It is not too hard for a reputable scrap metal dealer to know when someone is bringing them stolen metal. The guy showing up with a trunk load of cats with fresh clean cuts on both ends and cut wires hanging off it are a dead give away.

My truck lives out side, just throwing that out there.

Mine too ..along with a couple other rigs. I need to get a mean dog :)

A laser engraver literally takes no time to engrave. Like the blink of an eye, once all the information is put in. Thats a really good idea. May not stop it, but it should help out a lot.

I wonder if something like this would work under the truck? One things thieves don't like is loud noises and lights that attract attention. Though the cat thieves are quick so probably would not work in apartment building or other place where the owner is not nearby to respond quickly.

Would suck as Jersey would never allow to just put pipes in. That inspection thing. Lol

let me know if you if you pick up any performance gains .

I thought NJ got rid of that kind of inspection? Don't they just plug into the ODBII port and verify there are no codes and that's it? (just to comply with federal emissions standards for highway funding). So if you were able to fool the computer and not have an emission code, I assumed you would be fine.

Unless they brought it back, and I missed it.

The 1st part of the NJ emissions is a visual check for the cats using a mirror on a pole. Also an oxygen sensor code would be thrown for the post cat sensor in the absence of the cats.

Maybe times have changed. I was living in NJ when they got rid of safety inspections. They never looked on my 4" lifted Jeep with 35" rock crawling tires that stuck out 4"-6" from the fenders (I had tube fenders in the front). I went to the Lodi inspection facility, all I did was drive up to the facility, they looked for a check engine light, if none, then plugged into the ODBII port and I was on my way.

My jeep set every red flag, lifted 4" suspension 1.25" body lift, 5" greater tire size than OEM (30"), full roll cage, 5 point harness with aftermarket suspension seats (still had the factory 3 point), HID headlights, and shorty front bumper that didn't cover any part of the tires. I used to pay to get it inspected, until they got rid of safety, then I went back to the Lodi station and for the next 3 years (until I moved to NY) they never even looked under the jeep.

The jeep I'm talking about:

Now the scumbags can avoid the middle man and just smoke the cats. All thieves should be hung in public. We would not need locks on our doors anymore.
Why not drown them instead? You can reuse the concrete block. PLUS you don't waste a bullet or a good rope.

The best thing for the Feds to do is require all manufacturers to put a serial number on all cat.converters that if removed or defaced the junk yards or others could not purchase it.Also require the buyers to collect and keep all of the sellers imformation along with the cats. Serial number in a computer page for enforcement in case the cat.was stolen and it could be checked and the criminals caught. I know it could be a lot of work but making it i.possible to sell could stop the problem.

The worst part is it would be after the deductible. It would be nice if there were cover plates to bolt right in place to make them not worth the time to steal.
Here is one way to maybe help, but a lil expensive:
