Not sure I'd use the word "arrived" since I can't buy one and no one has tested it anywhere yet.

This engine has been rumored for years and though its obviously coming, I'd be surprised if the hemi is not available in some trim/option/package for another few years yet anyway.

The key is going to be fuel economy. If it can't increase that by an obvious and significant amount over the hemi then there is no point to this engine to me as a consumer I'm just going to pass on this engine (obviously Ram needs the engine because it will help them with emissions but that doesn't affect my purchasing decisions in the slightest.)

In other words; this engine is great for Ram, but not necessarily great for me as a consumer. We will see, I will consider one if they get it right with no turbo lag and a obvious improvement with MPG (and not just tricking EPA tests either, real world results!)
You can but it right now on the Jeep website

I like what I see about the new engine. I like inline, I have had I-4, I-5,(Envoy, Audi) and I-6 engines in the recent past. I suspect they will be available in the 2023 Ram starting this summer. I like the 5.7 Hemi, but the emission reduction in the new engine makes it a good decision.

Can someone please explain the towing issues that this new I6 is going to have? I have never been a huge fan of a 6 cylinder truck trying to tow anything more than a canoe or kayak.

Big inline petrol 6's were common down under in the 70's. All of our C20, C30, C50 and C60 were 292ci Chevy I-6's. The Bedford trucks were 300ci and bigger Bedford I-6 engines. There were diesels available, even Detroit diesels but uncommon. However I agree that 3.0L is too small. Great for a Jeep but not in a 1500. Might be nice with one of these and 100-120kW of electric motor behind it though.

That’s great and its about time. Be nice if they could squeeze 25 mpg out of it without babying the drive.

But….

Never buy the first model year of something new. Let someone else be the guinea pig. You’re rolling the dice on a poker game with marked chips….
That's Exactly what I thought when I bought my 2007 Toyota tundra with the new 5.7 engine, But it's has been a trouble free engine. I still think it's the best engine out there. That's why I won't get rid of it looks pretty good parked next to my ram power wagon which I also like.

There is no way this engine makes its way into the HD lineup
I guess we'll see.
I just completed a survey from Stellantis asking all kinds of questions about a I-6 hurricane in a 2500 so they are at least considering it...

My Toyota has 130,000 miles on it now. It is a 2007, and I am getting 18 miles per gallon driving from Tucson to Phoenix at 70 miles per hour.hand Calculated. When I pull my 8000 lb Trailer I average 6.7-7.2 miles per gallon here In the Arizona mountains. So I think the engine is just breaking in now. When I pull the same trailer with my power wagon It averages the same gas mileage. My 2018 power wagon has 22,000 miles on it. Just a side note both trucks are running 295x70x17's on the ram and 295x70x18 on the tundra. The ram has 4-10 gears the tundra has 4-30 gears.

They are down at least 3 to 4 mpg on the Hemi, which is already down 2 to 3 compared to Ford and GM. Combine no VVT with a 4.30 and a 6 speed and that's what you get.

I didn't think I'd have to explain it..

I'm thinking they're both going to land in the same area, right above chassis and steering components.

Certainly your kiwki-loob tech will know.
Since I have been in the automotive repair business over 50 years I can clearly see it is not located over steering and cross member. Sorry for your oversight.
That’s why I said same as what. I don’t have any loob techs working for me. Nor do I want any.

But the neighborhood kids are such cheap labor for lube work! It's pretty scary when you see dealerships with them. Soooo many horror stories. Most recently, my niece went in for oil change @ dealership. Low oil light came on afterward. Dipstick showed no oil. Put oil in, started it up, oil spewing out from underneath. Her dad comes over (certified mechanic), finds the lube monkeys had overtightened the early oil filter such that the gasket extruded out of the filter, they didn't notice it (or care or know what to do), then put the new filter on. The double gasket did not seal (prob from overtightening) and leaked oil.

That's almost as bad as a friend where they didn't tighten the drain plug and it vibrated out.

Boy, that's not much mileage improvement for all the new development work for a completely new engine architecture.

If you read more about the new I-6, the big thing is the lower CO2 emissions with
the engine. That helps with the EPA.

As mentioned above, mileage varies with all vehicles depending on how heavy the foot is........

True, but with it's HP and torque numbers, I suppose we can't really compare it to the 3.6L pentastar or 5.7 hemi.

So curious how they're going to roll it out eventually in the Ram 1500. Is it going to replace the pentastar or hemi? Is it going to be the base engine or an option? Is the oil filter going to drip oil all over the EPS and chassis.. I'm kidding on that.. mostly.
